Doug Cockle returns to voice Geralt in first clip from The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep

As a die-hard Witcher fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich and complex world of The Continent, I can hardly contain my excitement for Netflix’s upcoming anime film, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. Having followed Geralt’s adventures since the days of CD Projekt Red’s video games, it’s a heartwarming delight to see familiar faces like Doug Cockle, Joey Batey, and Anya Chalotra return to their roles.

In February, the world of Netflix’s hit series, The Witcher, is set to grow with the release of its second anime movie titled “The Witcher: Echoes from the Depths.

At Geeked Week, the streamer unveiled a never-before-seen sneak peek, introduced by none other than Doug Cockle, reprising his role as Geralt of Rivia from CD Projekt Red’s entire trilogy of video games. Alongside him are Joey Batey and Anya Chalotra, stars of the Netflix series who portray Jaskier and Yennefer of Vengerberg respectively.

Initially, the video displays Geralt and Jaskier in their campsite, sharing a late dinner near the fire. True to form, Jaskier is bothering Geralt excessively, this occasion being his proposal for Geralt to confide in bard Essi Daven (Christina Wren).

The narrative of “Sirens of the Deep” derives from a short tale titled “A Little Sacrifice,” found in Andrzej Sapkowski’s compilation, The Sword of Destiny. A key figure in this story is Essi, and there’s a hint of romantic undercurrent between her and Geralt, which is further complicated by his ongoing emotions towards Yennefer.

As a gamer, it feels like we’re going to see that unfold in the movie, too, since Jaskier mentions the sorceress in the trailer. It’s clear Yennefer is making an appearance, as hinted at in the teaser. Interestingly, she isn’t present in the short story, “Sirens of the Deep,” but it seems like it will delve deeper into “A Little Sacrifice.

Here’s the logline shared by Netflix:

Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter, is hired to investigate a series of attacks in a seaside village and finds himself drawn into a centuries-old conflict between humans and merpeople. He must count on friends — old and new — to solve the mystery before the hostilities between the two kingdoms escalate into all-out war.

As a devoted fan, I’d like to share that I’m excited about “Sirens of the Deep,” a project penned and overseen by Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin, both renowned for their work on the Netflix series. The talented Kang Hei Chul is at the helm as director, while Sapkowski lends his creative insights as a consultant. Notably, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, our cherished showrunner from “The Witcher,” is credited as a producer. Additionally, Ostrowski, Tomek Bagiński, and Jarosław Sawko serve as executive producers under Platige Image, while Jason F. Brown and Sean Daniel take on the roles under their Hivemind banner.

Netflix teamed up with Studio MIR, a renowned South Korean animation company, on the production of Sirens of the Deep. This studio is also known for its work in other projects such as The Legend of Korra, Voltron: Legendary Defender, and the animated film Nightmare of the Wolf based on The Witcher. They will also join forces with Netflix again for the upcoming adaptation of Devil May Cry.

Originally, the trailer suggested that the film would hit theaters at the end of 2024; however, it’s now set for release on February 11, 2025 instead.
