Justin Rose, fresh off a heartbreaking near-win at the Masters, is likely to feel disappointed when he gets back home from Augusta.
The golfer has lost a dispute with environmental groups regarding his plans to expand his £3.3 million home, which is located near the former residence of Lord Mountbatten.
The golfer famous for his Ryder Cup win, age 45, plans to tear down a section of his large, historic six-bedroom house to build a sunroom.
They’re planning a major renovation, adding a new kitchen and breakfast nook, a bar, a comfortable family space, and a master bedroom with a secure closet and home office.
But the council whacked the Grand Designs-style makeover into the long grass.
Local officials rejected the plan to add a two-story extension, saying it would stand out too much, look strange, and be too big. They also worried it would damage the historic character of the neighboring building, which is near Royal Lodge in Berkshire and was previously the home of Mr. Mountbatten-Windsor before King Charles asked him to move last year.
Rose, a mother of two from Hampshire, challenged the council’s ruling, but a government inspector recently visited her home and decided to support the original decision.
The former gate house backs on to Windsor Great Park and is part of the Crown Estate.
An old property advertisement states that, due to the terms of the lease granted by the Crown, the tenant is required to care for and protect the wisteria plant.
As a bit of a gardening enthusiast myself, I always loved the story about Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Apparently, she would routinely pause during her drive back to Royal Lodge just to see how her plants were doing – a lovely little habit that shows how much she appreciated the simple joys of nature, don’t you think?
Previous tenants include presenter and DJ Chris Evans.
As a lifestyle expert, I often see homeowners wanting to update their spaces, but sometimes those plans run into challenges with historical preservation. Recently, a homeowner named Rose wanted to replace an extension built in the 90s, but unfortunately, her appeal was denied. The inspector felt the new extension would negatively impact the building’s unique character and historical importance. Essentially, the plans just didn’t offer enough compelling reason to justify altering the original structure. It’s a good reminder that when working with older properties, you really need to demonstrate how any changes will respect and preserve its special qualities.
Will fiancee Daisy swap a veil for tails?
As a lifestyle expert, I’m already predicting this wedding will be the talk of the season! Daisy Knatchbull, 33, is marrying music executive Giovanni Damiani, 40, and rumor has it they’re planning a seriously fun, unconventional celebration. Apparently, both the bride and groom might be sporting top hats and tails – how charming is that? It’s a wonderfully quirky twist on tradition, and I can’t wait to see the photos!
Daisy is a Savile Row tailor who creates trouser suits for women. She’s also related to royalty – she’s a great-granddaughter of the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma and a distant cousin of Princes William and Harry.
Giovanni got down on one knee and proposed while on vacation in the Bahamas. He creatively spelled out ‘Will you marry me?’ using seaweed on the beach.
Daisy announced her engagement and posted a picture of her very affordable ring. She playfully joked about starting a trend of wearing simple, inexpensive rings like hers.
Bridgerton star: I dated red flags
After a difficult breakup with her Bridgerton colleague Sam Phillips last year, Bessie Carter says she’s now doing really well and feeling positive.
“I’m single and truly happy,” says 32-year-old actress and daughter of Imelda Staunton and Jim Carter. “I love the freedom of waking up alone – being able to relax, make a hot chocolate, and enjoy my apartment. It’s wonderful to decide how I want to spend each day.”
I’m such a fan of Bridgerton, and I was so thrilled to hear that Bessie Carter, who plays the wonderfully snobbish Prudence Featherington, is now reportedly living with Sam Phillips! He played Lord Debling, her character’s love interest, in the third season, and they apparently moved in together last year. It’s lovely to see their on-screen romance blossoming off-screen too!
Bessie explains she needed to rediscover who she was. She wanted to focus on therapy, excel professionally, and stop getting involved with people who showed warning signs in relationships.
Medals and millions for Olympian Keely
Keely Hodgkinson isn’t just an Olympic gold medalist in the 800 meters; she’s also finding success in other areas of her life.
Britain’s top female track and field star, age 24, earned £1.5 million last year, according to newly released information.
Recent financial reports for Runway Pro, the sports company owned by Keely Hodgkinson, show the business had £923,000 in cash, £110,000 in investments, and £443,000 owed to it as of last September. After paying all its expenses, Hodgkinson kept £1.3 million.

She earned a silver medal at the Tokyo competition and has since partnered with major brands like Nike, Omega watches, and Rimmel London cosmetics.
Row over Pascoe joke
Comedian Sara Pascoe, who isn’t typically known for controversial material, still managed to offend someone in the audience during a show in Edinburgh last month.
Comedian Pascoe recently received a message accusing him of misogyny and ruining someone’s International Women’s Day. He explains this stemmed from a joke in his show where he playfully stated he wasn’t a feminist and suggested his husband take multiple wives to share the housework – a comment he clarifies was not meant seriously.
She says the row left her thinking: ‘I don’t wanna do the rest of my tour.’
Although her audition on Britain’s Got Talent wasn’t shown on TV, it became a viral hit online, racking up over 20 million views on ITV’s YouTube channel.
People who love Shani Wallis, famous for playing Nancy in the 1968 movie Oliver!, are hoping she’ll perform at the Royal Variety Show. This is special because the show typically features the winner of Britain’s Got Talent.
‘This lady is a legend and should be invited by the King to perform,’ gushes one admirer.
A representative for 93-year-old Shani says they’re working hard to arrange for her to perform at this year’s Royal Variety Performance. They believe it would be a fantastic television moment, given that millions have seen her in Oliver!
Janette Manrara, a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing, has a surprisingly unusual food preference: spaghetti bolognese with banana! Born in the US to Cuban parents, she admits it’s ‘an acquired taste’ and that she knows many Italians might disagree. However, she draws the line at pairing bananas with seafood – that just doesn’t work for her.
