Dota 2’s The International heads home to Germany in 2025
Hamburg becomes the eighth city to host TI and the Aegis of Champions.
In September of 2025, it was revealed that the city of Hamburg would be the location for the annual Dota 2 tournament, The International. This prestigious event will take place at the Barclays Arena during the early part of the month.
After six years, the Aegis of Champions makes its much anticipated comeback to Germany, where it was initially crafted during the very first The International tournament in 2011, held in Cologne. This marks the fourth occasion that TI will take place in Europe.
The Aegis heads home for TI 2025 in Hamburg
On January 21st, Valve broke from their usual routine by not announcing the host city for the following year’s TI (The International). Typically, they reveal this information on the final day of the event after Team Liquid has won the trophy. However, as TI 2024 came and went, no such announcement was made, which is quite unexpected for Valve’s usual practice.
In the end, Hamburg will be the city hosting the event in 2025. The announcement reads like a scene from a space epic, “The planets have come into perfect alignment, and the stage is ready for yet another grand showdown – and this time, we’re back where it all started.
In August 2011, TI (The International) made its debut for the first time at GamesCom in Cologne. Team Natus Vincere etched their name into history at the Koelnmesse, winning the massive million-dollar prize – a prize that many doubted even existed.
After a span of sixteen years, the Aegis is set to be contested once more in Germany. Seventeen teams, including fourteen directly invited and three from qualifying rounds, will gather in Hamburg for this event. At present, specifics such as ticket costs, the exact procedures for qualification, and the methods for team invitations remain undisclosed.
Although it’s currently January, there’s still ample opportunity left for teams to begin their preparations for TI 2025 in Hamburg. In the coming months, numerous tournaments will be starting up. The highly anticipated FISSURE Playground is right around the corner, where we’ll witness the inaugural tier one Dota 2 event of 2025 unfold.
Following this, we move on to the second iteration of BLAST Slam and DreamLeague Season 25. By that time, it’s likely we’ll have a better understanding of how teams and supporters can embark on their journey to Hamburg for The International tournament.
