Dota 2 Patch 7.38b patch notes and summary: Nerfs aplenty as top heroes brought in line

Some of Dota’s most powerful heroes have copped nerfs.

A week after Dota 2’s 7.38 update was launched, it appears that certain heroes have stood out prominently among their peers. In response to this, Valve has prepared a nerfing tool and slightly reduced the power of some overly potent heroes in the 7.38b patch, which came out on March 4.

Dragon Knight, Abaddon hit hard by Valve’s nerfhammer

Without a doubt, it was bound to occur. In the latest update 7.38b, nerfs were implemented for some top-tier Dota heroes, including Dragon Knight, who was among the primary targets.

As a devoted fan, I must say, the adjustments to the Fire Dragon facet have left me contemplating my next move in the game. The Area of Effect (AoE) from Dragon Tail has been significantly reduced, nearly halved, and the bonus magic damage from dragon attacks has taken a 40% hit at all levels. These changes, undeniably, are quite impactful on the Dragon Knight, who’s been reigning supreme in the meta, especially following the release of version 7.38 last week. It seems like we might need to rethink our strategies to maintain our dominance in the game.

Furthermore, Abaddon was also affected as his complete set of abilities took a hit; Aphotic Shield now endures for a briefer period and demands more mana, Mist Coil inflicts less damage and within a narrower radius, while Borrowed Time’s Aghanim’s Scepter upgrade no longer illuminates the entire screen.

Additionally, Jakiro, Lifestealer, Tidehunter, and Tiny were not exempt from taking damage as well. In total, more than two dozen heroes were eventually brought into alignment with their fellow heroes.

Neutral items refreshed following new system rollout in 7.38

20 items from the neutral category were subtly adjusted in version 7.38b, following the recent revamp of the neutral item system during the Wandering Waters update the previous week.

Among all the artifacts, Mana Draught stood out as the favorite. Now, it restores slightly less mana compared to its previous capacity.

In a recent update, not all neutral items were weakened; instead, some received buffs to make them more useful. For instance, Pig Stick now lasts for less time but can be used more frequently, Iron Talon’s cooldown was significantly reduced by 25%, and the duration of Pollywog Charm has been extended by four seconds.

Let’s examine the key adjustments made to the primary heroes in Dota 2 update 7.38b. For clarity, we’ve only covered those heroes that fit the following categories:

  • Item grace period for swapping into the main inventory without a cooldown increased from three to five seconds.
  • Tormentor: Gold to each team member on death decreased from 250 to 175.
  • Tormentor: Unyielding Shield: Base Damage absorb increased from 1,900 to 2,100.
  • Tormentor: Unyielding Shield: Base Barrier regeneration increased from 30 to 40.
  • Lotuses can no longer be picked up by Meepo clones, Arc Warden’s Tempest Double or Dazzle’s Nothl Projection.
  • Moved the spawn box of the Radiant Safelane tier 1 hard pull camp a little bit down, removing an inaccessible camp block spot that could be created by chopping down a tree.
  • Removed several trees around camps, making it easier for additional paths to be cut through.
