Dota 2 Patch 7.38 Wandering Waters: A new map appears

Dota 2 players are in for a treat with Patch 7.38 is giving us a new map to explore!

For Dota 2 enthusiasts, it’s been quite some time since they had something fresh to look forward to. We’ve been running on Patch 7.37 for nearly six months now, with its extension, 7.37e, being in play for the past three months. Lately, there’s been a growing demand from the gaming community for a new update, especially since the Crownfall event has concluded.

On February 19th, 2025, Valve released Patch 7.38 for the game, which includes an exciting new map along with numerous new features and adjustments to the gameplay!

Patch 7.38 brings a new map to Dota 2 – Wandering Waters

For years now, I’ve been hooked on Dota 2 – one of the top-tier Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) games out there. Just like any other game in this genre, it needs a breath of fresh air to keep things interesting. Luckily, Valve has been consistently updating the game, giving it a facelift by tweaking the map design, expanding it with new territories, and enhancing overall quality.

As Patch 7.38 approaches, it’s time for us to engage in combat at Wandering Waters. With the arrival of Patch 7.38, expect several exciting additions to the map such as new jungle pathways, additional creep camps, and Roshan making his comeback by taking up residence in the river again.

Below is a list of new additions to the map.

New waterways

In the lush jungle areas on your map, Wandering Waters introduces fresh waterways. This addition brings about an engaging alteration: Characters moving along with the river’s flow experience a quicker movement pace—without suffering any reduction in speed when going against the current’s direction.

Creep camps see an evolution

In Patch 7.38, a novel creep camp has emerged, transforming over the course of the game. Initially, these creatures are Pollywogs, then they metamorphose into Boglets, and eventually develop into Croakers as the game advances. At this point, we don’t have much detail about it, but the evolving creeps could add an exciting element to gameplay.

Wisdom Runes upgraded into Shrines

In the game Dota 2, Wisdom Runes were an exciting new feature, particularly beneficial for support characters who could quickly move around and capture these for their team. However, with the release of Patch 7.38, the Wisdom Runes have been replaced by Shrines of Wisdom.

In this method, players earn experience similarly, but now they must position themselves inside the sanctuary to gather it. However, keep in mind that the sanctum won’t activate if any enemy is within its boundary. Consequently, there might be more confrontations, especially when a pesky, invisible hero is present.

In the game, Lotus Pools will be designated as zones where players need to remain unbothered by adversaries to gather the Healing Lotus. The healing lotus can only be obtained in these specific areas.

Roshan’s return

Over the years, Roshan, the character in Dota 2, has been frequently changing locations. With the release of Patch 7.38, Roshan is set to migrate again. In this new location, Roshan can be found along the river, with his lair situated on either side near where the Power Runes usually appear. As a result, Roshan will initially appear in the southern part of the map, but he may occasionally move northward towards the other end.

Tormentor change

In the popular game Dota 2, troublemakers have always been a source of conflict, and in Patch 7.38, they’re set for a significant overhaul. Instead of having two Tormentors, one near each team’s base, there will now be only one Tormentor that appears during the game.

In the game, there are two potential locations for the Tormentor to appear, based on Roshan’s position and the current in-game time. Furthermore, when destroyed, it unleashes an area affecting its surroundings with a substantial healing power.
