Dorinda Medley’s Major Flub About Sam Asghari and Britney Spears on The Traitors

During the shooting of season three, it turned out that Dorinda Medley had no idea that Sam Asghari was already wedded to Britney Spears.

60-year-old Medley humorously revealed that she didn’t recognize him during their initial encounter on the program, The Julia Cunningham Show, when they were both contestants; she admitted her lack of knowledge about his identity at the time.

She also gave him suggestions about his divorce, unaware that the woman he was separating from was the well-known pop artist Britney Spears, who is 43 years old.

Hilariously, Medley even asked Asghari, 30, what his spouse did for a living.

Medley, who was sent home in the second episode, asserted that he didn’t know Sam at all. He shared advice with him on going through a divorce, asking questions like “What does your spouse do?” to gain some context.

It wasn’t until fellow contestant Britney Haynes clued her in that Dorinda learned.

“Dorinda, that is Britney Spears’ ex!”‘ Medley recalled Haynes telling her.

It came as a surprise to me! You see, I’m the type of person who is quite adept at navigating the world while also being able to step back from it. Over the years, this unique balance has helped me maintain my mental well-being. I tend to fully immerse myself in whatever task or activity I am engaged in.

Cunningham inquired: “Did Sam say something like, ‘Yes, I essentially agreed to the divorce terms swiftly and without much fuss?’

Dorinda countered, “Not at all!” She had asked, “Aren’t you upset?”, to which she replied, “Wow, you’re so young! There will be another one. I bet she was fantastic.

Medley recalled Haynes saying: ‘”What is wrong with you?”‘

Medley mentioned that caring for Asghari is something that feels instinctive to her, and it includes activities like cooking for him, looking after his needs, and helping him navigate through difficulties. She put it this way: “I have a nurturing nature. I enjoy preparing meals, tending to others, offering guidance on their troubles. It’s just something that comes effortlessly to me.

‘I think that food has the power to heal. Whether it’s mending a broken heart, finding your way when lost, or easing loneliness, I believe a nourishing meal can provide comfort and solace.’

Interestingly enough, it wasn’t just Medley who was unaware of Asghari at the start of season three. Both Wells Adams and Bob the Drag Queen have confessed later on that they too weren’t familiar with Asghari when they joined the show.

Wells shared with Entertainment Weekly that he wasn’t acquainted with Sam. He recognizes who Britney Spears is, but he isn’t familiar with a random ex-partner of hers.

During a recent livestream on YouTube, Bob the Drag Queen expressed surprise: ‘I didn’t realize this individual was Britney Spears’ former spouse. I don’t have any personal connection to him! I don’t even know who he is… However, he has been pleasant towards me. But I can’t confirm if he’s always nice or not; I can only say that he’s been kind to me personally.’

Asghari’s divorce from Spears was finalized in May 2024, almost two years after they wed.  

In the stunning Scottish Highlands, Alan Cumming serves as the host for the show The Traitors. Each season features an array of well-known personalities, with three of them secretly chosen to act as traitors, without the knowledge of their fellow cast members.

In secret gatherings, the betrayers systematically remove the loyal characters from the show, making them disappear mysteriously each night – or to put it bluntly, they ‘eliminate’ or ‘knock out’ these faithfuls, as they refer to it in the game.

In addition, the followers have the power to dismiss contestants as well. They exercise this power through group discussions or round tables, during which they collectively decide who should leave the competition.
