Lee Cronin, the director of Evil Dead Rise, is now working on a new The Mummy movie. A short, unsettling teaser trailer has just been released, giving fans a first look.
This new horror movie offers a bold and unsettling take on the classic Universal Mummy films. It explores a fresh perspective on the familiar story, drawing inspiration from the original 1932 film that featured Boris Karloff as the Mummy.
Coming in April, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy tells the story of a journalist whose daughter, Katie, goes missing. Eight years later, Katie unexpectedly returns home, but things aren’t quite what they appear to be.

While specific plot details are still secret, the trailer suggests this new Mummy film will be much more serious and intense than the lighthearted, action-packed 1999 movie with Brendan Fraser.
A preview of Cronin’s film shows a disturbing image: the preserved body of a child with what appear to be a scorpion and a spider crawling out of its mouth.

The film uses quick, disturbing images – like a person falling from a window and a young girl covered in blood – to create a sense of intense fear.
The movie is a collaboration between Blumhouse and James Wan, the creator of Saw. Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, and May Calamawy lead the cast, with supporting roles played by Emily Mitchell, Veronica Falcón, and Natalie Grace.
According to writer/director Sean Cronin, his version of The Mummy is a mystery built around a central puzzle, reimagining the Egyptian mythology that’s always been key to the series. He describes it as a wild combination of the 1982 horror film Poltergeist and the serial killer thriller Seven (as reported by IGN).

The filmmaker explained that the movie is genuinely mysterious and feels like a complex puzzle, which is what initially attracted them to the project.
I’ve always been fascinated by hidden mysteries, even as a child when I first became interested in Egyptian history and mythology. That’s why I wanted to create a movie centered around the idea of deep, long-buried secrets and the things we don’t yet understand.
This movie offers a fresh take on the mummy story, moving away from familiar tropes and exploring darker, more unexpected themes. It doesn’t simply retell the old story – it delves into new territory and challenges our expectations.
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy releases in cinemas on 17 April.
