Amazon Studios, under its MGM label, has debuted the initial teaser for Ryan Gosling’s upcoming science fiction film titled “Project Hail Mary“.

The movie is adapted from Andy Weir’s book with the same title, and it tells the story of Ryan Gosling’s character, who is identified as Ryland Grace, a school teacher. After waking up on a spaceship, he finds himself with no recollection of his past or how he ended up there.

With his memories coming back, he embarks on a quest to decipher the enigma surrounding the peculiar substance that’s leading to the sun’s demise.

He’ll need to rely on his scientific expertise and out-of-the-box thoughts to prevent Earth’s destruction… however, an unlikely friendship could mean he won’t be working solo in this endeavor.

The movie titled “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” directed by duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, features Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Liz Kingsman, and Milana Vayntrub in secondary roles.

According to the trailer, Ryland joins ‘Project Hail Mary’ without any prior knowledge of astronaut work, as he is merely a middle school educator.

As a gamer, I confess I’m no astronaut. Space exploration or moon dancing are experiences I’ve yet to embark on.

He appears persuaded to venture into space, and later, we see him bravely accepting a perilous assignment. During this mission, he stumbles upon an uncommon architectural formation.

In his video journal, Ryland shares, “I encountered an extraterrestrial being. I must admit, I’ve grown rather fond of him. Thankfully, he’s not sprouting within me – that was something I had been worried about for a short time.

In a similar vein, Drew Goddard is responsible for reworking the script, as he also transformed another of Weir’s novels, “The Martian,” into the 2015 film directed by Ridley Scott, featuring Matt Damon in the lead role.

In a critique of the novel titled “Project Hail Mary“, the author of “Ready Player One” and its sequel “Ready Player Two“, Ernest Cline, deemed it as “one of the most unique, gripping, and enjoyable journeys I’ve ever embarked on”.

Project Hail Mary will be released on March 20, 2026.
