James Norton, a star of Steven Knight’s latest Netflix historical drama, believes it could be one of the writer’s strongest works yet.
Actor Colm Meaney, known for his roles in *The King and the Conqueror* and the upcoming series *House of Guinness*, praised the show’s script, calling it “Steven at his absolute best” according to *Radio Times*.
As the name implies, House of Guinness tells the story of the Guinness dynasty.

So, I’m hearing about this new series, and it’s set back in the 1800s, split between Dublin and New York. It’s all about the family who created Guinness, and it kicks off right after the death of the guy, Sir Benjamin Guinness, who really made the brewery a huge success. Basically, they’re taking a fresh look at what happened right after he passed away.
This series explores how the death of Benjamin affects his four grown children – Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben – and also looks at the lives of people in Dublin who are connected to Guinness and its impact on the city.

The show tells the incredible story of a family who unexpectedly inherits the world’s largest brewery,” explained the creator of *SAS Rogue Heroes* to *Tudum*.
This young team has been entrusted with a hugely successful brand, and their main goals are simple: first, maintain its current success, and second, find ways to grow Guinness even further.
Rafferty, a character in Norton’s work, is a former Catholic from southern Dublin who ended up employed by the Guinness family. He may have previously served in Crimea, according to an interview in *Radio Times*.

Sarah Lancashire, known for her role in *Happy Valley*, recently shared with *Radio Times* that she never expected to be performing with a strong Dublin accent while portraying a character in 19th-century Ireland – until she read the scripts by Steven Knight.
Norton described his character as a man with a ‘weakness for love and sex.’
He tends to get involved with powerful, sophisticated women. Usually he’s calm and detached, but when he begins to fall in love, it deeply frightens him.
The main cast also includes Anthony Boyle as Arthur Guinness, Louis Partridge as Edward Guinness, Fionn O’Shea as Benjamin Guinness, and Emily Fairn as Anne Plunket, who was born into the Guinness family.
House of Guinness will arrive to Netflix on 25 September.
