Looking for some unique detective shows? Here are five of our top picks to check out.

Poker Face

Lyonne is the star of this popular series, playing Charlie Cale, a woman with an incredible talent for spotting lies. Each episode features her solving a new murder mystery, but with a unique twist: the show reveals the killer upfront and focuses on *how* Charlie will catch them, similar to classic shows like *Columbo*.

Rian Johnson, the creator of *Knives Out*, recently released the second season of *Poker Face*, which *Digital Spy* praised as a “brilliant ride.”

We described it as a thrilling, violent story that, while dealing with serious themes, never feels overwhelmingly grim. Johnson’s writing is remarkable because it allows you to understand the motivations of even the killers, and while you might dislike some of the victims, the story provides insight into everyone’s perspective.

Bodies

The new mystery sci-fi series features a talented cast including Stephen Graham, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (from *The Queen’s Gambit*), Shira Haas (*Unorthodox*), Amaka Okafor (*The Responder*), and Kyle Soller (*Andor*). It has been well-received, earning an 82% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Miss Scarlet and the Duke

Since it first aired in 2020, the Alibi and PBS series has gained a loyal following. It centers around Eliza Scarlet (Kate Phillips), who takes on her father’s detective business and partners with her childhood friend, Inspector William ‘The Duke’ Wellington (Stuart Martin).

Grantchester

The cozy mystery drama *Grantchester* is inspired by James Runcie’s *The Grantchester Mysteries* novels. The show follows a group of priests who occasionally assist Detective Inspector Geordie Keating (played by Robson Green) with criminal investigations.

James Norton initially starred as Reverend Sidney Chambers for four seasons. He was later replaced by Reverend William Davenport (played by Tom Brittney), and then by Reverend Alphy Kotteram (Rishi Nair), who Digital Spy praised as an ideal successor.

The show has been on ITV since 2014, but it’s ending after its current eleventh season. Now’s the perfect time to watch everything on ITVX.

High Potential

This American series is based on the French-Belgian show *HPI*. It centers around Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson), a cleaning woman working for the LAPD who uses her surprisingly sharp mind to assist in solving murder cases.
