Cate Blanchett made it clear she wouldn’t tolerate any trouble when she appeared on the red carpet at the Olivier Awards in London on Sunday.
The 56-year-old responded with an obscene gesture to a persistent reporter who repeatedly shouted for a photograph. The reporter wouldn’t stop asking for a photo opportunity, despite the Oscar-winning actor being born in Australia.
Initially, Cate remained calm and politely asked him to stop requesting a photo whenever he felt like it.
Despite his persistence, the actress responded by raising her middle finger at him, but she deliberately turned her head so he wouldn’t see her face.
The playful act caused the assembled reporters to burst into loud laughter, and the actor, known for his role in The Lord of the Rings, responded with a wide smile.
A video of Cate’s surprising red carpet appearance was shared on the Movie TV News website and quickly gained a lot of positive feedback from fans.
One person exclaimed that the performance was the most graceful and stylish flip they’d seen recently, and another simply expressed their admiration for the performer.
Someone else pointed out that Cate and Kate Winslet are alike in that they won’t tolerate any disrespect or foolish behavior.
Cate Blanchett joined Elizabeth Hurley, Rachel Zegler, and Rosamund Pike on the red carpet at the Royal Albert Hall for the prestigious theatre awards.
The blonde actress looked stunning with a stylish bob haircut and a chic black dress by Lanvin.
Sadly for Cate, it was Rosamund, 47, who took home the Best Actress award on the night.
Cate had won plaudits for her recent role on the London stage in the theatre classic The Seagull.
The appearance came after it was reported, last April, that the acclaimed star was ready to retire.
Cate admitted she was unsure how to describe her job during an interview with Radio Times, explaining she’s moving away from acting. She joked that her family playfully rolls their eyes whenever she says this, but she’s truly serious about it.
She stated she has many personal goals she wants to achieve, but didn’t say when she plans to leave the entertainment industry.
She’s hinted at leaving her career before, even though she’s received recognition around the world.
In a 2023 interview with Vanity Fair, she revealed she’s frequently considered quitting acting.
She said: ‘It’s not occasional — it’s continual. On a daily or weekly basis, for sure.
It’s a passionate relationship, isn’t it? Like any love, your feelings towards it will naturally wax and wane, and you’ll need to rediscover your enthusiasm from time to time.
For the past three decades, Cate has earned widespread praise for her dedicated work on numerous theatre, film, and television projects.
She’s a celebrated actress with international recognition, having won numerous prestigious awards worldwide. These include two Oscars, three BAFTAs, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards. She’s also been honored for her contributions to the arts with an Order of Australia and a Chevalier award in France.
Cate Blanchett was born in Melbourne and began her acting career in Australia. She gained international recognition in 1998 with her debut film, the historical drama Elizabeth.
As a lifestyle expert, I remember when she first really broke into the mainstream – it was with the incredible success of the Lord of the Rings films in the early 2000s. And of course, she revisited that magical world years later with The Hobbit trilogy, cementing her place as a true fantasy icon.
