Don't expect Cobra Kai season 7 to happen, but season 6 isn't done just yet

As a gamer who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s, Cobra Kai has been a nostalgic rollercoaster ride that I never wanted to get off! From its humble beginnings on YouTube Red to its triumphant move to Netflix, this show has proven time and again that it’s not just a sequel but a masterpiece in its own right.

For Cobra Kai enthusiasts, there’s both positive and negative tidings: Unfortunately, no Season 7 is in the works, but hold tight because Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3 is shaping up to be quite a spectacle!

When do the final episodes of Cobra Kai come out?

It’s unfortunate to mention that the series won’t continue for a seventh season, as the producers feel six seasons are sufficient to tell the story. In fact, when the renewal for the sixth season occurred in January 2023, Netflix revealed it would be the final chapter. The season, consisting of fifteen episodes, has been divided into three parts, and the conclusion is expected to air in 2025.

For those curious, the last five episodes of this series will be released on Netflix on Thursday, February 13, 2025. These episodes are anticipated to conclude the story significantly, as producer Hayden Schlossberg compared it to a well-known trilogy of films when discussing with Entertainment Weekly.

Schlossberg told Entertainment Weekly that we expected the middle section of these three parts to feel like “The Empire Strikes Back,” with a dark, suspenseful conclusion leaving us wondering what would happen next. However, the final five episodes will bring resolution, with cheers from Ewoks and a return to normalcy (or triumph for your favorite show character, depending on who you’re rooting for).

He added this event will “lead to a lot of soul-searching” for the characters realizing how far this rivalry has gone. Co-producer Jon Hurwitz added how the final episodes return to Los Angeles with everyone shaken. “It’s going to be fun and emotional and tense and badass and action-packed and surprising and fulfilling.” So, the road to the final Cobra Kai episodes may be wild, but it is a fitting climax for the acclaimed series and we can’t wait to see how it all plays out!

Don't expect Cobra Kai season 7 to happen, but season 6 isn't done just yet

It’s still astonishing to watch the rise of the Cobra Kai‘s journey. Back in 2019 when it debuted on YouTube Red, many found its premise amusing. After all, it was a continuation of the 1984 film The Karate Kid, focusing primarily on Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), who was initially portrayed as the antagonist. As time went by, Johnny’s life seemed to lose direction, and he found purpose in resurrecting his old Cobra Kai dojo. This decision eventually placed him at odds with Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), who had started his own dojo in response.

Intriguingly, the series resonated with both long-time fans and newcomers alike. This was largely due to an exceptional ensemble of young performers and clever links back to the initial films. One particularly effective reference was reimagining Chozen (Yuji Okumoto), the antagonist from “The Karate Kid Part II,” as a reformed character, adding depth to the narrative. Additionally, the eventual reconciliation between Johnny and Daniel added a satisfying touch to the storyline.

The show experienced significant growth by transitioning to Netflix, allowing for a bigger budget, additional episodes, and increased fan enthusiasm. In the next segment, the Miyagi-Do group travels to Barcelona for the Sekai Taikai tournament. Throughout their journey, the young students encounter multiple obstacles, including their longtime adversary Kreese (Martin Kove) and his team, with Tori (Peyton List) joining forces with them.

In the second series, the team grappled with their individual challenges as they also vied for success. A shocking development occurred when antagonist Terry Silver (played by Thomas Ian Griffith) reappeared, bringing along his own group of allies.

In the second half of Cobra Kai season 6, Miyaga-Do appeared poised to advance, while Kreese’s group received another opportunity following a Russian team’s disqualification due to drug abuse. The Russians reacted angrily, leading to a massive fight that ensued. Amidst the chaos, Kreese attempted to kill Silver but inadvertently caused Kwon’s death when Axel kicked him onto Kwon’s knife, leaving everyone stunned. This significant event will pave the way for the forthcoming final episodes.

Cobra Kai season 6 part 3 premieres Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025 on Netflix.
