Donny Osmond Reunites with 14-Year-Old Self in Mind-Blowing AI Concert

Initially, we had virtual representations of ABBA, later came digitized versions of KISS. Now, a digital likeness of Donny is stepping onto the stage.

Donny Osmond is joining the trend of CGI concerts by revealing that he’ll be appearing alongside his 14-year-old self in a performance.

67-year-old performer shared on Instagram that a new cast member has joined his Las Vegas show, which is now in its third year. He stated: “I’ve got a fresh collaborator at my Vegas residency! Thanks to some astounding AI and CGI technology, I will be conversing and performing alongside Donny Osmond – yes, the one from 1972.”

Next, he showed a sneak peek of the program that displayed a conversation between the current Osmond and his digitally created younger version. This youthful duplicate was the age when he first achieved a solo hit with “Sweet and Innocent.

He shared an example of what you might witness, leading up to a clip where they argue about who the genuine Donny is. When the older Donny asked, ‘What’s it like to sing with yourself 50 years in the past?’, the younger one replied, ‘It’s almost like singing with my grandfather.’ ABBA kicked off their virtual concert residency in 2021, showcasing them as they were in 1979, and it has been an extraordinary achievement, contributing a £1.4billion economic boost to the UK.

At the ABBA Arena, a special venue constructed within London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the concerts take place with a lively ten-piece band in tow. This arena is unique as it features re-recorded vocals from the group, which were done in a studio in Sweden exclusively for this performance. In 2023, rock band KISS announced that they too would be employing this technique, after their virtual avatars sang during an encore at one of their live shows.

Osmond has been a longtime proponent of AI’s role in entertainment.

Previously, he shared with Fox News that AI serves as a tool, not a replacement. He admires the capabilities it offers him in his role as a producer or artist. To him, it is simply a tool, nothing more.
