Donald Glover has the knack for turning his most outlandish ideas into reality – whether it’s a Childish Gambino creation, an Atlanta episode, or, as a new venture, a design collaboration with Moncler Genius.

Following his collaboration debut with Moncler at their “City of Genius” event in Shanghai during fall, the ever-changing creative powerhouse has unveiled its joint collection with Moncler. With Glover directing the design phase, he tailored some of Moncler’s iconic shapes for a summer in Southern California, infusing the vibrant essence of his Gilga Farm creative collective, based in Ojai, into each item.

Initially, the bold colors catch your eye – oranges juxtaposed with creams, blues, and pinks – but upon closer inspection, it’s the focus on practicality that underlies the partnership.

In keeping with Gilga Farm’s philosophy, “Your worth lies in your utility; apply it to shape your path,” the Glover’s Moncler Genius exhibition emphasizes practicality over other considerations.

The fundamental aspect that ties Gilga and Moncler together is practicality – we both design with everyday utility in mind, as Glover points out when discussing the collection’s underlying philosophy. This principle can be traced back to the very roots of Moncler’s designs as they expand their product line.

One of the initial items Moncler produced was a sleeping bag, and this inspired our sleeping bag jacket design. Moreover, it sparked an entire collection focused on summer outfits that offer genuine worth. As for the main highlight of the collection, Glover points to a key duvet jacket that can be transformed into a sleeping bag.

Additional jacket styles feature a suede jacket bearing a Gilga Farm emblem at the chest and light, durable windbreakers made from nylon ripstop fabric. In terms of footwear, the pair has introduced a joint design for the Moncler Trailgrip Vela sandal, which boasts a robust Vibram sole.

Moncler’s mascot, Monduck, is even reinterpreted as a farmer to fit the part.
