Dolly Parton reacts to whether or not she is related to Miley Cyrus as shocking genealogy results emerge

As a lifelong fan of country music and a student of family trees, this news about Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus being distant cousins has me feeling like I just struck gold in the Grand Ole Opry! It’s amazing to think that these two powerhouse artists, who have shared stages and dueted together for years, are actually related by blood.

Dolly Parton discovered she and her goddaughter Miley Cyrus are related by blood.

I was thrilled to discover, as shared in a recent conversation with Access Hollywood, that I share a distant familial bond with the remarkable artist known as Miley Cyrus. A fascinating finding from our family tree research through Ancestry revealed this connection.

Wow, I find that fascinating!” I exclaimed upon hearing the news. “I’ve always had a feeling Miley and I shared some sort of connection, but I never imagined it could be this close! I guess genealogy can truly surprise us sometimes.

She commented that the 31-year-old Disney Channel alum would surely enjoy it, and I’m not surprised since she seems like part of my family to me.

In a press release on Monday, it was confirmed that the two renowned figures from separate countries share the relationship of being seventh cousins, one step further removed.

The Utah-based company revealed that Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus are distantly related, specifically as seventh cousins, with a slight separation. They can trace their family line back to a common ancestor named John Brickey who was born in Virginia in 1740.

As a dedicated family tree enthusiast, I can share that when someone says “once removed,” they’re referring to a familial bond where there’s a single generation gap between two individuals. For instance, my cousin’s child would be my “first cousin once removed.” It’s all about keeping track of the generations!

In the course of my personal journey, I relocated to picturesque Blount County, Tennessee, where I settled down with my beloved wife and children until my passing in 1806. As a branch of the Brickey family, we can trace our roots back to France; our ancestors embarked on their American adventure in the late 1600s, as noted by genealogical records.

Genetically, Brickey is Dolly’s 6th great-grandfather and Miley’s 7th great-grandfather.

Dolly and Miley share a deep connection with Tennessee, as they’ve worked together on numerous occasions throughout their careers.

In the initial season of Miley’s popular series “Hannah Montana,” which premiered on September 29, 2006, the artist known as the “9 to 5 singer” made her debut. She portrayed Hannah’s (Miley) grandmother figure in the show, a character called Aunt Dolly.

She reprised her role in a season two episode that aired on December 7, 2007.

In a season four episode that was broadcast on December 19, 2010, Dolly appeared for the last time on the program, marking her third and concluding appearance.

The duo have also rung in the new year together as they co-hosted Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party 2023 and preformed together back in December 2022.

And Miley’s famous cover of Jolene is not the only time she has swapped songs with her godmother.

In a recent project, Dolly recorded a version of Miley Cyrus’ smash single “Wrecking Ball” for her latest solo studio album that came out in November of the previous year.

Back in June, news emerged about an upcoming musical titled “Hello, I’m Dolly,” which is based on the life and career of the famous singer known for “I Will Always Love You.

The musical will be coming to Broadway in 2026. Show dates have yet to be announced.
