As a lifestyle enthusiast, I was so thrilled to see Dolly Parton back in the spotlight! She made a beautiful appearance at Dollywood’s opening day for their 41st season on Friday, and it was a truly heartwarming moment.
The singer, who is 80 years old and recently postponed her Las Vegas concerts due to health concerns, received a warm welcome of cheers and applause from her fans at the event.
Dolly Parton worried fans when she missed her 80th birthday concert at the Grand Ole Opry in January. Since then, she’s only participated in events like the 2024 BRIT Awards virtually.
‘I’ve been up to a lot,’ the country singer – whose husband Carl Dean passed away last year – expressed to the crowd, per WLOS News 13.
As many of you know, I haven’t been out on tour lately. I’ve been dealing with a few minor health things, but I’m getting great care and focusing on getting better.
You know, life throws curveballs, and I’ve definitely had my share. Losing my husband, Carl, was incredibly difficult. Honestly, it just took a toll on me – a lot of grief, combined with the everyday stresses of life, really wore me down. It was a tough time, and I needed to acknowledge that I wasn’t okay for a while.
I recently focused on rebuilding my strength and well-being – spiritually, emotionally, and physically. But everything is great now, and it didn’t hold me back at all.
On stage, the performer was joined by Eugene Naughton, the president of Dollywood Parks & Resorts.
I was laughing so hard when she playfully told the audience that people might think Mark Naughton was her ‘new husband’! She quickly cleared things up though, letting us all know she’s actually not seeing anyone right now.
Dolly Parton said she believes her husband, Carl Dean, is waiting for her. She joked that he wouldn’t be pleased if she arrived in heaven with anyone else.
‘He’d be saying, “Who’s that little pisser? You leave him outside the gates,”‘ she joked.
Okay, let me tell you about Dolly’s outfit! She absolutely nailed it with a sweet and classic look – a crisp white dress layered with a denim vest. But it wasn’t just any denim vest; it had the most charming floral details! It was the perfect blend of country and cute, totally embodying her signature style.
She had blonde hair, styled with the top half pulled back, while wavy strands cascaded down past her shoulders.
The celebrity was seen at a few events last year, including an exhibit honoring Dolly Parton in Nashville in May 2025.
It came just two months after her husband passed away at the age of 82 on March 3, 2025.
Dolly Parton originally planned to begin her Las Vegas shows in December 2025, but she had to delay them until September 2026 because of some health issues.
I was really concerned to hear that she needs to have a few medical procedures. She hasn’t said exactly what they are, and is keeping those details private, but I’m sending her all my best wishes for a smooth recovery.
She reassured her fans that she wasn’t planning to retire, explaining that she’ll continue working as long as she feels called to do so by her faith.
I feel like God is asking me to take things a little slower at the moment, so I can recharge and be fully present for future adventures with everyone. I appreciate your love and understanding.
The next month, in October, Freida, her sister, asked fans to send ‘prayers’ for the singer, which worried many of them.
Dolly Parton’s sister, Stella, recently posted on X (formerly Twitter) to let fans know Dolly is doing okay. She explained that Dolly shared a video last week revealing she’s being treated for kidney stones.
My sister, Freida, always worries when one of us is sick, so she asked for prayers for Dolly.
That same month, the singer known for ‘9 to 5’ posted a video with the message, ‘I’m not dead yet!’
In the video, she asked if she appeared unwell and then explained she simply wanted to reassure everyone about her health.
Parton then admitted that she ‘didn’t take care of’ herself following the death of her husband.
The singer hasn’t been able to attend several events lately, including the Governors Award in November 2025. She accepted an honorary Oscar – the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award – virtually at that event.
She also didn’t attend the ceremony for the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Hall of Fame that month.
Last February, she sent a video message to The Brit Awards congratulating Ozzy Osbourne after he received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Just before the end of last year, the Daily Mail found out that Dolly is recovering well and still plans to begin her shows in Las Vegas this September.
Sean McBurney, president of Caesars Palace, shared that Dolly Parton is recovering well, and he and his team are thrilled for her.
He also stated that Dolly Parton’s concerts planned for September 2026 at the Colosseum are still confirmed.
Oh my gosh, I was SO worried! Just before Dolly turned 80 in January, she actually talked about all the rumors about her health in an interview with People magazine. It was such a relief to hear it straight from her!
The celebrity responded to comments about their age, saying, ‘People point out I’m turning eighty, but that doesn’t bother me. Consider everything I’ve accomplished! I actually feel like my life is just beginning.’
I realize that might sound silly, but as long as my health holds up – and currently, I’m feeling pretty good – I’ll be okay.
Dolly Parton added to worries when she said she wouldn’t be able to make it to her 80th birthday concert at the Grand Ole Opry.
However, a source told the Daily Mail that her absence from the event was not medical related.
A spokesperson for Dolly Parton clarified that she wasn’t scheduled to appear at the event and never intended to be there, so she isn’t withdrawing from any prior commitments. She simply wasn’t ever going to attend.
