Does Zephyr Survive The Sharks & Killer in Dangerous Animals? Shocking Ending Revealed
Beware: The following article discloses plot details of the movie “Dangerous Animals“. The film concludes its storyline in a predictable manner, but it leaves much to ponder about its intricate themes. The narrative revolves around Tucker (Jai Courtney), who operates a cage-diving enterprise in Queensland, Australia, masking his true profession as a serial killer. He targets tourists by luring them over shark-filled waters and recording their gruesome deaths. In this thriller, the next victim is Zephyr (Hassie Harrison), an American surfer who becomes Tucker’s captive, handcuffed to a bed in a secure chamber within his boat.
Zephyr appears to be an ideal target due to her solitary nature and reluctance to form bonds with others. Beneath this facade, she yearns for companionship deeply, scarred by her tumultuous upbringing in various foster homes. In the year 2025’s movie, Dangerous Animals, she encounters Moses (portrayed by Josh Heuston), who develops feelings for her following a brief encounter and becomes the only person to realize that she has vanished. After locating her on Tucker’s boat, Moses too finds himself bound and handcuffed to a bed, with Tucker planning to feed them both to sharks.
Do Zephyr & Moses Survive At The End Of Dangerous Animals?
Both Sustain Serious Injuries
In the film titled “Dangerous Animals“, a blend of shark attack films and serial killer thrillers is employed, creating numerous hazards that Zephyr and Moses must conquer in order to stay alive. Throughout the narrative, both characters endure severe wounds; Moses gets repeatedly stabbed in the abdomen by Tucker, while Zephyr is compelled to break and bite off her thumb to free herself from handcuffs during a failed escape attempt. Yet, remarkably, both characters make it through to the movie’s conclusion alive.
Beyond just existing, Zephyr’s ordeal has shown her a deeper yearning not just for companionship with people on land, but that such connections could potentially be crucial to her very existence. Moreover, the bond she formed with Moses proved essential for her survival initially as it led Moses to her and disrupted Tucker’s initial plan. However, this connection also provided Zephyr a reason to persevere – something worth living for that helped her dig deep and find the resilience within herself to keep fighting for survival amidst Tucker’s constant obstacles.
In my own words: As I lay there seemingly lifeless, Moses, with a glimmer of hope in his eyes, Zephyr confessed her feelings for me, admitting that I matter to her significantly. This revelation, though it came when I was unconscious, filled me with a sense of anticipation – a sign that our romantic bond might persist once we’re back on the mainland. And as if the universe was on our side, Zephyr had already lit a flare to signal for help from a nearby boat in those shark-infested waters. This act of hers ensures our safety during this critical moment.
What Happens To Tucker In Dangerous Animals?
He Is A Formidable Opponent
Despite Tucker managing to hold his ground in numerous confrontations with Zephyr and Moses throughout the movie, he unfortunately meets his end in the final scenes. This is due to an unexpected turn of events: having yelled “boo” to make Zephyr slip into the water, the shark actually retreats instead of attacking her. This gives Zephyr a chance to swim around the boat, sneak up on Tucker, and fatally wound him with a harpoon gun while uttering “Ooby Dooby, motherfer.
Yet, Zephyr doesn’t deliver the fatal blow to Tucker. Instead, she pushes him into the water, and in a dramatic turn of events, a massive shark swiftly appears and gobbles him up, leaping out of the water with Tucker in its mouth before disappearing beneath the surface. This tragic ending symbolically completes Tucker’s journey, as his lifelong fascination with sharks stemmed from surviving an attack by a Great White when he was young, which left him with a massive shark bite scar across his torso.
Why Didn’t The Shark Eat Zephyr?
The Moment Could Be A Metaphor
When Tucker tries to feed Zephyr to the sharks, two of them initially refuse to eat her. The first time, it’s due to a smaller shark being frightened by the arrival of an even larger one. But when it’s this big shark’s turn, it also rejects her, following a brief moment of eye contact. It could be that the shark wasn’t hungry because Tucker had just fed them his previous victim, Heather (Ella Newton). However, it appears as though the shark might have identified Zephyr as an apex predator, which could mean that instead of eating Zephyr, the shark may opt to make Tucker its meal.
What Does “Ooby Dooby” Mean?
It’s A Recurring Motif In Dangerous Animals
In the movie “Dangerous Animals,” Zephyr might not have understood why she said “Ooby Dooby” to Tucker before attacking him with a harpoon gun, as this phrase could be a nod to a 1970s song by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Earlier in the film, Zephyr hears this catchy tune playing in Moses’ car after helping him jump-start it. Interestingly, she shares her dislike for the saccharine song and prefers more profound tracks like “Fortunate Son” during one of their first meaningful conversations following a temporary estrangement while driving Moses to his stalled vehicle.
Moses justifies his song selection by explaining that “Ooby Dooby,” which Zephyr criticizes as a dance for fools, is actually symbolic of love and the sensation in your heart when you find someone special and take the plunge because there doesn’t seem to be any other option. This passionate and unyielding perspective on love drives Moses to do whatever it takes to find Zephyr, so her mentioning this song while criticizing Tucker is a nod to his persistence, as well as an indirect acknowledgment that she may be starting to reciprocate those feelings for him too.
The Real Meaning Of Dangerous Animals
There Are Multiple Thematic Arcs Throughout The Plot
The story of Dangerous Animals explores various underlying themes, adding depth to its narrative beyond just its blend of genre components. One such theme revolves around Zephyr’s journey, which challenges her to re-evaluate her former lifestyle, characterized by her preference for isolation, avoiding human connections, and spending most of her time in the ocean because she feels invincible there.
The main theme other than dangerous animals in “Dangerous Animals” is subtly hinted at through the title itself. Throughout the story, Tucker frequently likens himself and Zephyr to sharks, yet he also compares her to a marlin that doesn’t seem to grasp its futile efforts to escape because it’s perpetually on the fisherman’s hook. This animal theme, coupled with his job, underscores the irony of his violent actions. Moreover, Tucker’s musings about the animal kingdom’s pecking order lead to his undoing, as he overestimates his predatory prowess.
