Does redemption or punishment await Sol in The Acolyte finale?
As a long-time Star Wars gamer and fan, I have seen countless stories of Jedi and their struggles with the dark side. The latest episode of “The Acolyte,” titled “Choices,” brought us closer to understanding Sol’s role in Mae’s turn to the dark side. It was a chilling reminder of how one misstep can lead to catastrophic consequences.
In “Choices,” the seventh episode of The Acolyte, I got a clearer understanding of what transpired on Brendok sixteen years ago. I witnessed firsthand the errors committed by Sol, and now I’m eagerly anticipating the repercussions in the season finale. Will there be redemption or punishment for Sol in the final episode? The suspense is killing me!
In the episode, it becomes clear that Sol’s strong longing for a Padawan apprentice, misunderstanding of the coven’s teachings, and hasty use of force against Mother Aniseya significantly contributed to Mae’s decision to join forces with Qimir, also known as The Stranger, who could be a Sith Lord.
As someone who has followed the Jedi Order and its struggles since the time of the Old Republic, I can’t help but feel a sense of sadness and disbelief when I see yet another Jedi’s actions leading to nothing but chaos and destruction. Anakin Skywalker’s descent into darkness in “Revenge of the Sith” was a pivotal moment in Galactic history, one that left scars on the hearts of those who believed in the light. And now, we have Luke Skywalker, once a symbol of hope and resilience, coming close to taking the life of his own nephew in his sleep.
Anakin and Luke found redemption through self-sacrifice for higher causes in their final acts.
What will Sol’s fate be?
As someone who has experienced redemption after making mistakes in my own life, I truly believe that there is a chance for him to make things right. It won’t be easy, but it’s not impossible. He can start by acknowledging his wrongdoings and taking responsibility for them. Apologizing sincerely to Mae would be a crucial step towards making amends.
An alternate possibility is that he might succumb to the dark side and desire vengeance against Qimir. The suspected Sith was responsible for slaughtering all the Jedi on Khofar, including his own apprentice Jecki. In an attempt to atone for his actions, he may set out to hunt down Jecki and end his life.
Although he might receive disciplinary action from the Jedi Council for his conduct, potentially harming the Jedi Order’s esteem, as Qimir urged Mae and as explored in Star Wars Explained, this could represent an unconventional means to eliminate a Jedi without utilizing a weapon.
In the Star Wars universe, redemption is a common theme. However, for the character Sol, it might be intriguing to explore an alternative conclusion, where instead of making amends for past errors, he faces the consequences of his actions without the chance for redemption.
We will probably find out in the season finale of The Acolyte which airs on Tuesday on Disney+.
