As a fan who has been captivated by the intricate web of mysteries spun by Tom Moran in The Devil’s Hour, I can confidently say that season two is nothing short of a masterclass in suspenseful storytelling. After a two-year hiatus, it feels like reuniting with an old friend – one who keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat.
If you assumed that the mystery in “The Devil’s Hour” might lose momentum during its second episode, you would have greatly misjudged its creator, Tom Moran.
Following a break of two years, the psychological thriller starring Peter Capaldi resumes, adding layers to the enigma and expanding upon the broader narrative in ways that some may not have anticipated it could.
The opening episode grabs viewers with its captivating storyline, leaving them eager yet restless for the solutions to the lingering mysteries left unresolved in the last season.
In the second season of the Amazon Prime Video series, we move beyond the primary narrative that was central in most of season one. Instead, this season postpones that particular plotline and focuses on a different aspect – providing deeper insight into the character of Lucy, played by Jessica Raine.
Despite the passage of time, the thrilling occurrences from its first season continue to linger at the back of our thoughts, maintaining the tension and intrigue. The suspense is sustained, as we wait for the revelations, though they are not prolonged excessively.
Generally speaking, Moran appears competent in managing the flow of events, even though episode one felt slightly prolonged. Moreover, his method of teasing the narrative effectively maintains our interest, yet he avoids annoying the viewers with unnecessary tension.

When Gideon (Capaldi) and Lucy resume their mission, they face new challenges that feel unique. The complications stem from intricate relationships in Lucy’s life, such as her detective boyfriend Ravi (Nikesh Patel).
In “The Devil’s Hour,” the connections I witness among the characters amplify the weight of the choices Lucy is forced to make, lending depth and sincerity to the story’s emotional resonance.
Pursuing a higher objective might put at risk the people she cares about deeply, a fact that becomes clear due to the outstanding acting chemistry between them.
Lucy’s connections – be it with her son, her mother, or anyone else – seem intricately linked and appear delicate, like a single misstep might cause them to unravel precariously.
As a gamer, I find myself continually drawn to Gideon and Lucy’s connection. If it weren’t for the joint quest that ties us together, I might just walk past them on the street without a second thought – but their significance in my life, their unwavering importance, is the very foundation upon which this story stands.
This season, Peter Capaldi from “Doctor Who” and Jessica Raine from “Call the Midwife” skillfully develop Lucy and Gideon’s mentor-mentee relationship in a believable way. Though their bond isn’t traditional – not quite a friendship or a father-daughter dynamic, but more of a strategic alliance – it carries an underlying respect and admiration that makes them grow fond of each other.
I’m thoroughly captivated by Benjamin Chivers’ portrayal of Lucy’s son Isaac this season. He manages to infuse more vibrancy into the role without compromising Isaac’s perceived aloofness. Contrary to popular perception, Isaac isn’t just a calm character; he harbors deep emotions that unfold beautifully in season two. The character evolves as he grapples with his feelings and tries to understand them better.
Chivers skillfully exhibits his expertise through subtle and unassuming actions – a gentle touch, a strategically timed grin.
Besides the initial episode that seems prolonged, the season two mystery unfolds at a satisfying pace. You’ll find yourself getting increasingly hooked as you progress through each subsequent episode.
Lucy adopts a more aggressive approach with her actions and choices, leading to captivating outcomes that we trust will keep you engaged throughout.
