Dodgers die-hard Ice Cube and Fat Joe, lifelong Yankees fan, will perform at World Series

As a lifelong music enthusiast and baseball aficionado, I find myself utterly thrilled by this fantastic crossover of two of my beloved worlds – hip-hop and America’s pastime! Growing up in the ’90s, I was a diehard fan of N.W.A and Ice Cube, and their raw energy resonated with me deeply. On the other hand, I couldn’t help but be captivated by the Yankees’ legendary dynasty, with legends like Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera gracing the field.

Ice Cube and Fat Joe plan to express their ongoing devotion to the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees by taking the stage during the second and third games of the World Series.

Just prior to the first pitch on Friday for the World Series match between the Dodgers and Yankees, Major League Baseball revealed that hip-hop legends will perform at each team’s home stadium during the series.

On Saturday at Dodger Stadium in L.A., Ice Cube, a well-known rapper from South L.A., has been chosen to perform before the game. Meanwhile, Fat Joe, an emcee hailing from the South Bronx, will kick off Monday’s Game 3 at Yankee Stadium.

As a die-hard fan of Los Angeles sports, I’ve always been proud to rock Dodger Blue, and it’s no secret that Ice Cube, legendary rapper from N.W.A and the iconic “Straight Outta Compton,” shares this same passion for our city. Now, he’s taking things up a notch by performing unique World Series versions of his classic hits, “Bow Down” and “It Was a Good Day.

Joe, known for his narration of promotional content for his cherished New York Yankees, will be singing customized renditions of his songs “New York” and “All the Way Up.” The Game 3 of the 2024 postseason series, to be played at Yankee Stadium, marks the initial occasion a World Series game has been hosted there since the Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series back in 2009, which was also the year their new stadium started operating.

In a statement, MLB shared that both stars are passionate supporters of their local teams throughout their lives, and they’re thrilled to help prepare fans for this season’s World Series clash. These special performances will follow the national anthem each evening and will be aired during Fox Sports’ unique pre-game coverage.

On Friday, the league introduced a promotional advertisement titled “Empire State of California Love,” merging elements from both states’ informal anthems to celebrate the postseason matchups between these esteemed teams. The ad is a 30-second medley of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ 2009 hit “Empire State of Mind” and Tupac Shakur’s 1995 classic “California Love,” featuring Dr. Dre. This musical fusion plays alongside memorable moments from the postseasons of both the Dodgers (featuring Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts) and the Yankees (with Juan Soto and Aaron Judge).

In addition to other celebrities, Brad Paisley – a renowned country musician and Dodgers supporter – is slated to sing the national anthem. Meanwhile, Bryan Cranston, famous for his role in “Breaking Bad” and a passionate Dodgers fan, will deliver Vin Scully’s iconic message, “Time for Dodger baseball.” Former Dodgers World Series champions Orel Hershiser (1988) and Steve Yeager (1981) are set to participate in the ceremonial first pitch.
