Doctor Who’s Russell T Davies responds to Steven Moffat’s new ITV drama

As a huge fan of Doctor Who and the brilliant minds behind its revival, I couldn’t help but feel both thrilled and apprehensive when Russell T Davies, the show’s original mastermind, shared his thoughts on Steven Moffat’s latest creation, Douglas Is Cancelled. Having grown up watching the time-lord adventures unfold under Davies’ guidance, I was intrigued to learn about his perspective on this thought-provoking drama.

Russell T Davies has expressed his thoughts on Steven Moffat’s latest production, “Douglas Is Cancelled.”

A ITV drama is centered around a television presenter, portrayed by Hugh Bonneville from “Downton Abbey” and ex-“Doctor Who” actress Karen Gillan. The storyline revolves around this individual being under fire for allegedly making an inappropriate joke about sexism during a wedding ceremony, subsequently becoming a target of public backlash.

After viewing the show, Davies expressed his admiration for “Douglas is Cancelled” in an Instagram update, stating: “This series is SPECTACULAR. It’s gripping and somehow unsettling, yet in a favorable manner! The acting ensemble is absolutely flawless.”

You might have assumed this work would be a witty exploration of societal norms through the lens of cancel culture and social media. It entices you with its lightheartedness, but as you delve further, it leads you into increasingly dark territories.

The depth of its intricacy, mercilessness, and authenticity leaves one in awe. Surprisingly, this harsh reality provokes an exciting sense of thrill.

“Karen Gillan’s expressive eyes, displaying around 5,000 emotions, keep drawing you in. Impressive! Bravo, @stevenwmoffat and @hartswoodfilms, for recognizing her talent @itv.”

The person in charge of “Doctor Who” when it came back in 2005 was later replaced by Moffat as the showrunner. Moffat then left this role in 2017.

More recently, Davies has come back to the BBC’s “Doctor Who” as its head writer. He worked alongside Moffat again in the 14th season episode titled “Boom.” Additionally, Davies is set to write this year’s Christmas special, named “Joy to the World.”

Recently, Davies spoke about inconsistencies in the storyline of “Doctor Who,” stating that he’s open to creating new episodes that contradict past events.

He has caused the demise of Atlantis on three separate occasions throughout its history, and should someone approach me with an compelling tale about its destruction in the future, I would be willing to retell it.

In the 1960s, I watched in awe as William Hartnell brought the story of Troy and the wooden horse to life. If given the chance today, I would eagerly revisit that tale and experience the adventure once more.

I wouldn’t be revealing any spoilers here, I assure you. Instead, let me suggest this simple addition: “You know, it’s amazing how sometimes time glitches and we find ourselves back here.”

As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to share that “Douglas Is Cancelled” is now streaming in its entirety on ITVX for all of us to enjoy! On the other hand, “Doctor Who” enthusiasts can catch new episodes on BBC One in the UK, while fans from different parts of the world can stream it on Disney+. Last but not least, for those who want a blast from the past, classic episodes of “Doctor Who” are readily available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
