Doctor Who’s Russell T Davies pens “captivating” new Channel 4 drama

Channel 4 has announced a “captivating” new drama from writer Russell T Davies.

The showrunner behind “Doctor Who” is teaming up with the broadcaster once more, in the wake of the success of 2021’s “It’s a Sin.” Together they are developing a new TV series focusing on LGBTQ+ themes, entitled “Tip Toe.

The upcoming five-part drama is based in contemporary Manchester, delving into the challenges and destructive influences shaping the city’s community nowadays, as seen through the perspectives of the main characters, friends Leo and Clive.

The storyline introduces Leo, who owns a bar on Canal Street, and Clive, a father of two teenagers who’s an electrician. However, despite their seemingly stable lives, the environment surrounding them is becoming increasingly uneasy.

In a suburban thriller filled with tension, words transform into harmful instruments, views intensify, and what were once peaceful neighbors turn into mortal adversaries. This gripping story questions our notions of safety and security.

4 Channel revealed the tagline that underscores the drama’s name origin: “Once I’d stride into rooms with a grand flourish, now I tread lightly, afraid of being noticed.

In a statement, Davies expressed that it was a privilege to collaborate with Channel 4 once more, hinting at his upcoming drama. He mentioned, “I felt compelled to create this series as the world has become increasingly bizarre, challenging, and ominous. And let me tell you, the battle is definitely underway.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that Peter Hoar, renowned for his work on The Last of Us and Nolly, is stepping up as the director. Plus, it’s fantastic news that I’ll be collaborating once again with Nicola Shindler, an executive producer I’ve worked with in the past on Queer as Folk and It’s a Sin. Can’t wait to see what we create together!

Shindler deemed “Tip Toe” as both “relevant” and “compelling,” hinting at a script brimming with “Russell’s remarkable intelligence, affection, and heart-wrenching depth.

4 Channel has mentioned they’ll share the casting specifics later on, and at this point, the release date remains undetermined.

Tip Toe will air on Channel 4.

In the UK, you can catch Doctor Who on BBC One, while viewers from other regions can enjoy it on Disney+. For those in the UK, classic episodes of Doctor Who are accessible via BBC iPlayer.
