I’m so excited! Ncuti Gatwa, who I absolutely love as Doctor Who, is going to be in the movie version of Wicked alongside Cynthia Erivo! It’s cool to hear he’s involved, though apparently he won’t be doing any singing or dancing – he’ll be lending his voice to the project instead. Still, I can’t wait to see what he does with the role!
The movie, called Bad Fairies, is an animated musical created by Warner Bros and Locksmith Animation, the studio behind Ron’s Gone Wrong.
Deadline was the first to report that Ncuti Gatwa had been cast, though his specific role wasn’t revealed. The story centers around a mischievous group of fairies who are determined to cause some trouble and change the status quo in their magical world.
What to Read Next
Cynthia Erivo will play Jayne Staplegun, a strong-willed fairy who sparks a revolution with her rebellious spirit.
The songs were written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Ross, the talented pair behind the incredibly popular musical Six. If these new tracks are even remotely as catchy as their hit song ‘No Way’, we’re in for something special.

Isabella Summers, who plays keyboard for Florence and the Machine, will be in charge of the music and score. Sim Evan-Jones, known for his work on Shrek and Shrek 2, will edit the project, and James CJ Williams, who worked on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, will handle the cinematography.
Filming is happening now in London, and the movie is expected to come out in the summer of 2027.
Ncuti Gatwa’s casting news coincides with his appearance hosting a Q&A session for Cynthia Erivo’s book, Simply More.
Ncuti Gatwa has other acting projects planned after he finishes playing the Doctor on ‘Doctor Who’.
He’ll be appearing in the upcoming film about Isabella Blow, titled The Queen of Fashion, portraying fashion designer Michael Roberts, who worked at Tatler magazine.
Cynthia Erivo is currently promoting Wicked: For Good, the second movie based on the popular musical. It’s been confirmed that this new film will be a bit shorter than the first one.
This includes the special, One Wonderful Night, featuring performances and behind-the-scenes content, and starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande along with other cast members.
Bad Fairies will be released in July 2027. Wicked: For Good is now playing in cinemas, and Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
The latest issue of Living Legends is now available! You can find Ariana & Witches at newsstands and online for only £8.99.
