Doctor Who’s 20th Anniversary: Billie Piper Returns as Rose Tyler

Billie Piper will revisit the world of Doctor Who alongside Christopher Eccleston, as the BBC program commemorates twenty years since its contemporary comeback.

42-year-old actress will once again take on the character of Rose Tyler in a collection of audio dramas by Big Finish, scheduled for release in August 2025.

In 2005, when the show was brought back by Russell T Davies, Billie played the role of Rose opposite Christopher Eccleston portraying the Ninth Doctor.

she appeared alongside David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor in the second series, causing viewers to weep profusely during her poignant farewell in the final episode titled “Doomsday.

Billie Eilish reappeared as Rose Tyler during the fourth season of Doctor Who, along with the show’s 50th Anniversary Special in 2013. However, it marks the first collaboration between her and Christopher since the initial series 20 years back.

Regarding the twelve, hour-long podcasts, Billie expressed that it seems particularly fitting for Rose to meet up with her initial Doctor at this moment in time.

Twenty years since our initial encounter with the TARDIS and the start of an exciting journey, here we stand once more, Chris and I, prepared to embark on further adventures, braving the universe and its perils hand in hand.

The new adventures of this duo imply that the Doctor’s former experiences may resurface as a threat, and both familiar foes and fresh adversaries lie in wait.

61-year-old Chris, who had the privilege of portraying The Doctor for just one series, shared his joy in returning to work with Billie once more, expressing equal levels of excitement and contentment!

He expressed his joy about resuming the creation of new adventures alongside Billie as The Ninth Doctor. He mentioned that he finds it hard to imagine his character existing without Rose by his side. He seems to be a solitary alien who thrives on having just one companion.

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but marvel at the extraordinary portrayal of Billie in the role of Rose. There’s an unyielding strength, courage that knows no bounds, and a profound understanding that permeates every scene they share. It’s as if they were two halves of the same soul, perfectly complementing each other.

In an exciting update about the upcoming audio series, producer Matt Fitton shared: “Twenty years since the Ninth Doctor and Rose first graced our screens, Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper return with their captivating chemistry – the Doctor exploring the universe with Rose, while she introduces him to the finest aspects of humanity.

In the 12 thrilling installments that seamlessly complemented the 2005 series, I found myself immersed in even more of Jackie Tyler’s captivating storyline, revisiting the Powell Estate, and encountering both familiar faces from my past and brand-new allies and adversaries, all woven intricately through the fabric of time and space.

“The writers have truly outdone themselves by capturing the unique essence of a memorable time period, and Chris and Billie have shown great enthusiasm and excitement when engaging with these scripts.

‘They’re having a blast, back on that trip of a lifetime – and they sound fantastic!’

Beginning in 1999, Big Finish has been creating numerous audio dramas starring actors from the classic Doctor Who series, such as David Tennant, Catherine Tate, Peter Davison, and Jodie Whittaker, who have all reappeared in these productions.

Initially airing on TV in 1963, Doctor Who was canceled by BBC executives in 1989. After a film adaptation in 1996 that didn’t go down well with audiences, Russell T. Davies revived the series in 2005.

After that, six additional actors took on the role of the Time Lord’s title, and as of now, Ncuti Gatwa is portraying The Doctor. His second complete series is scheduled for release on screens later this year.
