Doctor Who star confirms she’s eager to return for spin-off: “The writing is so good”
Actress Mandip Gill, known for her role in Doctor Who, has expressed excitement about the possibility of reprising her character and potentially joining a spin-off series within the franchise.
In her recent interview, the actor, who portrayed Yasmin Khan alongside Jodie Whittaker during her tenure as The Doctor, was queried about the possibility of returning or doing a spin-off series if offered.
In her conversation on Lacey Turner’s podcast, “We Started Here,” Gill exclaimed, “Absolutely, a thousand percent! To be honest, I’ll cut you off before you even finish your question, I apologize.
Whenever Turner proposed I might not consider it, I was quick to clarify: “Absolutely not, for the simple reason that the writing is exceptional. It resonates with me deeply and holds a special place in my heart.
However, the imaginary realms they constructed, along with their props and sets, were nothing short of amazing. Not only that, we had the privilege of filming in awe-inspiring locations. Whatever came my way after that experience, I didn’t hesitate to accept. It was an unequivocal “yes” from me!
She continued, “If it’s similar to a standalone story set in a different universe, it’s something I prefer. My characters shouldn’t remain static; I enjoy watching them evolve. A significant part of their development is my own discovery of who they truly are.
Audience can look forward to hearing more of Yaz and the Thirteenth Doctor in an upcoming audio series from Big Finish this summer. Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill will be returning to voice their respective characters.
Gill expressed excitement about continuing to develop her character in the exciting “Doctor Who” series, as it plays a significant role both professionally and personally for her, following the announcement last year.
Working with Jodie once more feels like a cherished dream realized. Our bond is truly unique, so I’m confident that our recording sessions will resonate with joy and laughter.
In a month’s time, the beloved series “Doctor Who” will be back for its fifteenth season, with Ncuti Gatwa carrying on his journeys inside the TARDIS.
Multiple notable actors have been verified to make appearances on upcoming episodes, as hinted by the latest preview which features brief glimpses of Rylan and Alan Cumming.
In the UK, you can catch “Doctor Who” on BBC One, while viewers outside the UK can find it on Disney+. For those in the UK, classic episodes of “Doctor Who” are accessible on BBC iPlayer.
