Doctor Who spinoff confirmed to have “very definite ending” and “one of the best scenes ever”

I’m so excited! Russell T Davies, the showrunner for Doctor Who, just gave us a little sneak peek at the new spin-off, The War Between the Land and the Sea, which is coming out next week. It looks amazing and I can’t wait to see it!

This five-part series features Russell Tovey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jemma Redgrave, and Alexander Devrient. It tells the story of a global emergency that begins when an ancient creature from the ocean surfaces and challenges humanity.

This is the last project resulting from the recently cancelled agreement between the BBC and Disney Plus, which was revealed last month.

Russell T Davies, the creator of Doctor Who, recently told Metro that the new series, The War Between the Land and the Sea, will be a complete story with a clear ending, and won’t be part of a larger ongoing narrative.

He explained the show is a limited series, meaning it has a clear and final conclusion, and encouraged viewers to watch through the credits for extra content.

Okay, so the Doctor doesn’t actually show up in this, it all happens within its own little world. But then the credits start, and honestly, the last few seconds contain one of the most amazing scenes I’ve ever seen – it’s just incredible!

“It’s a stunning performance from one of the stars of the cast that I’m very proud of.”

This announcement follows Davies’ statement that the new series will demonstrate the Whoniverse’s continued ability to tell compelling and relevant stories.

In an interview with Empire, he explained that he aimed to demonstrate the full scope and power of this fictional world to the BBC.

This show feels incredibly current and relevant, tackling issues like the way water companies prioritize profits over people – a frustrating reality many are facing right now. And given that it’s a show about water, it absolutely should!

Tovey, who plays Barclay on the show, explained that he’s attracted to projects with meaning. While he acknowledges the importance of entertainment and happiness, he believes art should also have substance, something he feels showrunner Russell T Davies consistently achieves.

The first two episodes of “The War Between the Land and the Sea” will air on BBC One at 8:30 PM on December 7th.
