Doctor Who reveals new companion Varada Sethu’s character

As a die-hard Doctor Who fan, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard that Varada Sethu, known for her roles in Andor and Jurassic World Dominion, will be joining Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor’s companion in season 15. The news came as a surprise during the recent episode “Boom,” and although some fans speculated she might be reprising her role as Mundy Flynn from an earlier Steven Moffat-penned episode, that’s not the case.

Doctor Who spoilers follow.

Doctor Who has revealed new companion Varada Sethu’s character for season 15.

Next year, the actor from both “Andor” and “Jurassic World Dominion” will be joining forces with the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), following his unexpected cameo in the latest episode titled “Boom”.

It was thought that Sethu might take on the character of Mundy Flynn again in a new episode, possibly penned by Steven Moffat, but this is actually not happening.

Doctor Who reveals new companion Varada Sethu's character

Last week at Comic-Con, “Doctor Who” showrunner Russell T Davies announced that actor Sethu will take on the role of a new character named Belinda Chandra in the upcoming season 15 (as reported by Radio Times).

Previously, Davies referred to the last name of the character Rani Chandra from “The Sarah Jane Adventures,” who was portrayed by Anjli Mohindra, as Chandra. It remains unknown at this point whether these two characters share a family connection.

In the series of Doctor Who, it’s not unprecedented for a character who later becomes a regular companion to make an initial appearance prior to their main tenure. For instance, recall that Jenna Coleman made several appearances before she was cast in the recurring role as Clara Oswald.

The BBC and Disney are teaming up for a new “Doctor Who” project titled “The War Between the Land and the Sea” featuring stars Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, produced by both the BBC and Disney.

1. In the UK, you can catch Doctor Who on BBC One, while it’s aired on Disney+ internationally. For those in the UK, you can also enjoy classic episodes of Doctor Who on BBC iPlayer.
