Doctor Who reveals 2024 Christmas Special sneak peek

As a self-proclaimed Whovian with decades of time-traveling tales under my belt, let me tell you, the latest clip from the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas special has sent me into a temporal tizzy! The addition of Nicola Coughlan to Ncuti Gatwa’s Time Lord promises a delightful dose of wit and adventure.

Doctor Who has dropped a new clip from its 2024 Christmas special, ‘Joy to the World’.

Actress Nicola Coughlan from “Derry Girls” and “Bridgerton,” teams up with Ncuti Gatwa’s Time Lord in this holiday special, written by previous showrunner Steven Moffat.

In the broadcast during last night’s (November 15) Children in Need event, it is revealed that the weapons manufacturers known as the Villengard are attempting to cultivate a cosmic entity on Earth, aiming to create an endless energy supply.

The Doctor clarifies that the proposed action might extinct every living being on Earth, requiring roughly 65 million years for a thorough execution. Intriguingly, it appears that The Doctor and his latest associate find themselves transported to approximately 65 million years ago.

Oh, and they’re seconds away from sliding into the jaws of a hungry dinosaur.

The clip features our heroes mentioning a place called the Time Hotel, and Moffat mentioned earlier this week that the holiday venue can indeed take its guests through time.

Suppose a hotel company stumbled upon the concept of time travel,” he playfully suggested. “If they could travel through time, what would be the initial action for them? They’d recognize that they have a chance to market and sell all the unbooked nights from their historical hotels.

Additionally, he shared that he took on writing the special because the current showrunner, Russell T Davies, was unable to do so due to lack of time. Given Moffat’s fondness for Christmas and his particular affection for Doctor Who, this opportunity was irresistible to him.

In the UK, you can catch Doctor Who on BBC One, while viewers outside the UK can find it on Disney+. If you’re in the UK and want to revisit classic episodes of Doctor Who, they are available on BBC iPlayer.
