Doctor Who legend receives MBE

As a dedicated fan of the entertainment world, I am absolutely thrilled to see such a diverse and deserving group of individuals being honoured by King Charles III in his 2025 New Year Honours list!

Tom Baker, who played my all-time favourite Doctor Who character, receiving an MBE for his services to television is a moment that fills me with pure joy. It’s truly heartwarming to see the recognition he deserves for his iconic portrayal of the Fourth Doctor.

Myleene Klass and Steve Lamacq also receiving MBEs for their contributions to music and radio is fantastic news! Klass, who has been a tireless advocate for women’s health and miscarriage awareness, is an inspiration to many, and her efforts are truly making a difference in the lives of countless individuals.

The knighthood bestowed upon Stephen Fry, whose wit, charm, and advocacy for mental health have brought laughter and hope to millions, is a well-deserved honour. His presidency of Mind has been instrumental in raising awareness about this crucial issue, and I am particularly moved by his words on the subject.

And let’s not forget our beloved children’s author Jacqueline Wilson, who was appointed as a Dame Grand Cross for her services to literature. As someone who grew up reading her books, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride in knowing that she has been recognised for her incredible contributions to the world of children’s literature.

Finally, seeing the recognition given to athletes like Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Duncan Scott, who have worked tirelessly to represent our country with pride at the Olympics, is nothing short of inspiring. Their dedication, perseverance, and achievements are a testament to the power of hard work and determination.

All in all, this year’s New Year Honours list has left me feeling hopeful for the future, knowing that there are so many incredible individuals out there making a difference in their fields and in the lives of others. And as a bonus joke, I can’t help but think that if they had an award for “Services to Fandom,” I would definitely nominate myself!

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been included among the esteemed group of entertainers recognized by King Charles III in his 2025 New Year Honors list! What an honor it is to be part of such a distinguished community.

One of the recipients of this honor is Tom Baker, a renowned actor previously in the role of “Doctor Who.” He’s been awarded an MBE for his contributions to television. Most notably, he played the Fourth Doctor from 1974 to 1981.

As a music lover who has spent countless hours listening to radio shows and attending concerts, I am absolutely thrilled to learn that two of my favorite personalities in the industry, Myleene Klass and Steve Lamacq, have been honored with MBEs. Their dedication to music and broadcasting has brought joy to millions of people, myself included, and their contributions to the world of music are truly inspiring. I am excited to see what they will continue to accomplish in their careers and am grateful for the positive impact they’ve had on my life through their work.

Myleene Klass, a musician and radio presenter, has used her talents to entertain and inspire audiences for many years. Her passion for music is evident in everything she does, from playing the violin to hosting popular radio shows. I remember listening to one of her concerts on the radio years ago, feeling like I was right there with her, and it’s clear that she has touched the lives of many in a similar way.

Steve Lamacq, on the other hand, is a well-respected DJ on BBC 6Music, known for his knowledgeable and enthusiastic approach to music. He has been a constant presence in my radio rotation for years, always introducing me to new artists and helping me discover the best of what the music world has to offer. His dedication to music journalism and broadcasting is unparalleled, and I am thrilled that he will continue to share his passion with listeners everywhere.

I have no doubt that both Myleene Klass and Steve Lamacq will continue to make a positive impact on the world of music and entertainment, and I am honored to have their work as a part of my own musical journey. Congratulations to them both on this well-deserved recognition!

Klass has been recognised for her work advocating for women’s health and miscarriage awareness.

In a social media video, she expressed the honor as being “very significant” and shared her renewed commitment to utilize her influence to advocate for change and ensure appropriate care for the women and infants who truly merit it.

In response to receiving his MBE, Lamacq remarked: “If it were possible, I would dedicate this recognition to every venue, artist, and promoter throughout the country, particularly those at the grassroots level. They have brought me immense joy over the years, and I am honored to be their advocate.

Former football player turned sports analyst, Alan Hansen, was bestowed with the Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in recognition of his contributions to sports and broadcasting.

Actresses Carey Mulligan, renowned for her Oscar-nominated roles, Sarah Lancashire from the hit series “Happy Valley,” and Anne Reid, best known for her time on “Coronation Street,” have been honored with CBEs in recognition of their significant contributions to the world of drama.

Lancashire, fresh from his role in the Netflix thriller “Black Doves“, found the recognition an “unanticipated joy”.

Television personality Alan Titchmarsh has received a CBE for his contributions to gardening and charitable work. Overjoyed, taken aback, yet elated and humbled by the honor, he expressed being “completely thrilled, shocked, but thrilled and deeply honored that I should be considered worthy of a CBE, absolutely flattered beyond words.

In addition, Eddie Marsan from the movie “Back to Black,” Kevin Whately known for his roles in “Inspector Morse” and “Lewis,” Anne-Marie Duff from “Sex Education,” and former Formula 1 racer turned commentator Martin Brundle are some of those who have been appointed Officers of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE).

Whatley expressed his gratitude and joy for receiving the award. He acknowledged that actors can occasionally contribute to raising awareness and funds for charities, but he emphasized that it’s the tireless efforts of full-time charity workers who truly deserve recognition. Each and every one of them merits a medal for their dedication to their causes.

Renowned children’s writer Jacqueline Wilson has been bestowed with the title of Dame Grand Cross, honoring her significant contributions to literature. This prestigious title, equivalent to a Knight Grand Cross, is the highest rank in the order of chivalry. The recognition follows her 2008 appointment as a Dame, further cementing her distinguished status.

Previously, the renowned hosts like Lloyd Grossman (from MasterChef), Gareth Southgate (former England men’s football coach), and multi-talented individual Stephen Fry (broadcaster, actor, and writer) have received knighthoods.

Sir Stephen has been honored for his contributions to charitable organizations, environmental efforts, and mental health initiatives. He expressed surprise and delight upon hearing this news, and noted that being cited for his role as president of the mental health charity Mind held a special significance for him.

This area is extremely significant, and even royal figures like the King and his family have integrated it into their duties by discussing it publicly. Many influential individuals have also openly addressed this topic,” he stated further to PA.

This summer’s Paris Games saw numerous Olympic and Paralympic athletes receiving recognition following their triumphant wins with gold medals in the sporting arena.

Athletes such as Katarina Johnson-Thompson (heptathlon), Keely Hodgkinson (800m), William Ellard (swimming), David Ellis (paratriathlon), along with rowers Lola Anderson, Hannah Scott, Lauren Henry, Emily Craig, Dr. Imogen Grant, Georgie Brayshaw, and Gregg Stevenson are some of the recipients honored with MBEs (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire).

Johnson-Thompson expressed his heartfelt gratitude, stating he was profoundly touched to be featured on the King’s New Year Honors List, acknowledging his contributions to the field of athletics.

Achieving my dreams over the past 20 years would not have been possible without the significant support and contributions of countless individuals. My own small efforts are merely a reflection of their immense help.

Athletes Duncan Scott (swimming), Tom Pidcock (mountain biking), Samantha Kinghorn (wheelchair racing), and Lauren Rowles (rowing) have received Officer of the British Empire (OBE) awards.

Four previous sub-postmasters, namely Lee Castleton, Jo Hamilton, Christopher Head, and Seema Misra, have been honored with an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in recognition of their significant contributions in uncovering the Post Office scandal.

This year, I found myself deeply moved by the gripping portrayal of a historic injustice in the ITV series, “Mr. Bates vs The Post Office“. As a gamer who values truth and fairness, it was heartening to see Sir Alan Bates, the campaign leader, recognized for his efforts earlier this year with a knighthood.
