Doctor Who confirms move away from Daleks and other classic monsters in “different step”

According to the showrunner of Doctor Who, Russell T Davies, you might not encounter any old-time monsters during this current season.

Last year’s series lacked recurring villains, except for Sutekh in the final episode, and it appears that this year’s installments might delve deeper into that trend.

Speaking to Radio Times, Davies explained that he wants to focus on new villains this time around.

What to Read Next

I’m moving on from Daleks, Cybermen, and the Master for a bit… primarily because my previous story featured all three of them alongside Jodie Whittaker in one episode, battling each other – which was fantastic, but after that epic encounter, it makes perfect sense to explore another direction.

However, small instances, subtle gestures, hints or mentions… If someone ever says, “You remind me of a Drahvin!” then I feel content!

I really appreciate those touches in the writing – occasionally they incorporate them into scripts for our enjoyment, but they’re usually subtle references or hidden gems. Today’s content seems to have that same delightful quality, if you catch my drift.

In reference to his fondness for allusions, Davies described the show as “almost like a continually evolving written work; it’s undeniable that it’s been around for 62 years.

In the upcoming season, we’ll see a familiar antagonist returning as Mrs. Flood, who made her initial appearance in our 2023 Christmas special episode.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t wait to see Anita Dobson’s intriguing character make regular appearances leading up to the final episode. This time, it seems she’ll have quite a significant role to play!

The beloved character, Doctor Who, is set to make a comeback on April 12th, airing simultaneously on BBC One and iPlayer within the United Kingdom. For fans residing outside of the UK, you can catch the series on Disney+. Additionally, for those in the UK, don’t miss out on exploring the classic episodes available on BBC iPlayer!
