Doctor Who has announced a promising update for its missing classic episodes.
Since 1963, you can stream many historical seasons of “Doctor Who” on BBC iPlayer. However, it’s important to note that 97 episodes from the series’ initial six years are currently missing.
In the 1960s and 70s, prior to having proper archiving systems, the BBC either destroyed or reused tapes containing some episodes. This action was taken to conserve storage space and money, however, it resulted in 26 stories being left incomplete due to the missing episodes.

Fortunately, despite being absent in their original written form, the tales haven’t vanished altogether. In fact, audio recordings for each installment remain, preserving them. Moreover, several of the misplaced episodes have resurfaced in a fresh animated version.
One animation is completed after another, and the upcoming release will be ‘The Savages’, from 1966. However, it seems that the pace of production might accelerate, hinted by executive producer Paul Hembury.
During a showing of the latest animation at the BFI Southbank, Hembury expressed optimism about reaching a fresh deal with BBC Studios, allowing them to animate numerous overlooked tales concurrently.

As a fan, I’d express it like this: “Instead of working on them one by one, I’m all for speeding up the process and making them faster!” (Inspired by RadioTimes)
Our aim is to initiate the following project relatively quickly, and while we are still in the process of finishing the current one, we want to simultaneously begin work on the one following it. In essence, our objective is to keep multiple projects running concurrently.
Everything seems to be falling into place rather nicely. While we don’t have a formal contract yet, we remain optimistic about the potential for further collaboration.
Instead of separately releasing each missing story on DVD and Blu-ray, we are considering bundling future animations as a complete season set. This is the strategy we plan to implement.
The beloved character, Doctor Who, is making a comeback on April 12th on BBC One in the United Kingdom. For viewers outside of the UK, you can catch the series on Disney+. Additionally, classic episodes of Doctor Who can be found and streamed on BBC iPlayer for those residing within the UK.
