Doctor Who announces new names for Ncuti Gatwa’s next season

Doctor Who has announced some new names for Ncuti Gatwa’s next season.

The upcoming season of the long-standing sci-fi series will be its second with Ncuti and Disney involved, marking the 15th season since its 2005 revival. Joining Russell T Davies are four freshly announced writers, some of whom are making their television writing debuts.

They are Juno Dawson, Sharma Angel-Walfall, Pete McTighe, and Inua Ellams.

Juno Dawson

To fans of Doctor Who, Dawson is a well-known figure due to his work on audio dramas and books, and he served as the main writer for the Doctor Who: Redacted podcast series.

She mentioned that she began watching “Doctor Who” with her grandma when she was ten years old, back in the 1990s. It’s a surreal experience for her, having transitioned from writing fan-fiction for personal enjoyment to crafting what she considers the greatest TV show ever made – a dream realized.

“I can’t wait for fans and newcomers to see the new season.”

Angel-Walfall clinched the Channel 4 New Writing Award, and has contributed to productions such as “Dreamland”, “A Town Called Malice”, “Renegade Nell”, and “Supacell”.

She excitedly expressed her delight at being involved in such a renowned series, as she is an ardent admirer of Russell T Davies. This opportunity, to collaborate with him on a show she adores, feels like a dream come true. It’s truly an honor to be a part of the Doctor Who family, and every moment of it has been a joy!

McTighe has a long history with the world of Doctor Who, having written the episode titled ‘Kerblam!’ for Doctor Jodie Whittaker, and also the upcoming spin-off series known as “The Battle Between Land and Sea“.

Stepping back into the TARDIS feels like returning home, and it’s a pleasure to be here again, with Russell manning the controls and the remarkable Bad Wolf crew holding tight,” he expressed.

I adore this series deeply and I’m extremely pleased with the upcoming episode, as it reflects our collective efforts beautifully.

Ellams has gained recognition for his works in poetry and drama, earning a Fringe First award at Edinburgh. Now, he’s diving into the world of television with the show titled “Who“.

From my earliest recollections, I’ve always been an avid fan of ‘Doctor Who.’ I began watching it when I was ten years old, right here in Nigeria,” he stated.

The production stirred my imagination, allowing me to explore realms beyond my everyday life. Being part of writing for this show was a profound experience, akin to grasping divinity. It was both awe-inspiring and exhilarating, and I eagerly look forward to revealing my tale to the world.

In the United Kingdom, the show known as “Doctor Who” is aired on BBC One, while it can be found on Disney+ everywhere else. For those in the UK, classic episodes of “Doctor Who” are accessible via BBC iPlayer.
