Doctor Strange & Scarlet Witch Join Forces in Marvel’s D&D Parody
Comics and role-playing games are two pastimes that have a close connection. Besides often being available at the same retail outlets, there exist numerous games where players assume the role of superheroes. This Halloween, these realms will merge in a comic book, where Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, along with other magical Marvel characters, are thrust into a distorted version of Dungeons and Dragons.
Titled “Strange Tales,” this four-part miniseries is the creation of writer Jeremy Whitley and artist Bayleigh Underwood. Whitley gained recognition through his Eisner-nominated original fantasy series Princeless. While Underwood has made a name for themselves by illustrating various independent fantasy and horror comics, as well as Marvel Action: Chillers.
Whitley expressed his longtime affection for the eerie aspects of the Marvel Universe, adding that incorporating elements from tabletop role-playing games made it even more irresistible. In his opinion, the unique blend presented in Strange Tales is a delight Marvel fans everywhere are sure to appreciate!

Strange Tales to unite Marvel’s mystic heroes
The main focus of Strange Tales is on Nico Minoru, a character previously seen in Runaways, who invites some companions – including her girlfriend Karolina Dean – for a Halloween-themed game night. Alongside them are Wiccan and Hulkling to make up the rest of the group.
In an unexpected turn of events, trouble arises when a dice roll summons actual goblins, causing Nico’s companions to vanish mysteriously. Before long, Nico finds herself sprinting through the bustling streets of Manhattan, chased by a dragon. Desperate and out of options, Nico stumbles upon The Last Door that opens into Scarlet Witch’s enchanted shop. This marks the start of an adventure to rescue Nico’s friends and unravel the mystery behind this disastrous game night.
Strange Tales #1 arrives in comics shops everywhere on October 8, 2025.
