Doctor Predicts HUGE Twist 15 Minutes Early!
Warning: This article includes MAJOR SPOILERS for Doctor Who season 15, episode 3, “The Well”!
In the third episode of Doctor Who‘s season 15, titled “The Well,” the Fifteenth Doctor accurately foreshadows a major plot twist fifteen minutes before it’s revealed. The return of Russell T Davies as showrunner for Doctor Who began with mixed reactions and caused a divide among fans. Not all viewers appreciated season 14 featuring the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday. However, the highly-praised initial three episodes of Doctor Who‘s season 15 are swaying many initially critical fans with their top-notch writing and creative ideas. Unlike past companions, Belinda Chandra presents a unique character and has a stronger connection with the Doctor than Ruby Sunday did.
In simpler terms, “Doctor Who” Season 15’s episode titled “The Well” is a follow-up to “Midnight,” happening approximately 400,000 years after the initial storyline. Contrary to expectations, the crucial twist in this episode is subtly hinted at only five minutes in but isn’t fully understood until much later. Remarkably, the Fifteenth Doctor manages to anticipate the truth prematurely, even without having all the puzzle pieces available for a complete picture.
The Fifteenth Doctor Predicts Aliss Will Be Both The Victim & The Threat
The Doctor Has Had Experience With Characters Who Are Both Innocent And Dangerous
Just moments before stepping into the chamber to locate Aliss, Shaya frets that the individual within might pose a danger to them, whereas Belinda advocates for treating this person as a victim. However, the Doctor points out that the person in question could be both the survivor and the perpetrator. Fifteen minutes later, it is unveiled in the episode that the monster from “Midnight” had latched onto Aliss, following her tragic necessity to slay her closest friend in self-defense.
Shaya is concerned the person in the room may harm them as they approach Aliss, while Belinda suggests treating this person as a victim. The Doctor notes this individual might be both survivor and attacker. Later in the episode, it’s revealed that the monster from “Midnight” had bonded with Aliss, who was forced to kill her friend for self-defense.
It’s logical that the Doctor, with their history of dealing with dangerous beings who don’t necessarily mean harm, could foresee even an innocent person as a potential threat. This is reminiscent of the wisdom accumulated by previous Doctors in ‘Doctor Who’, showing that the Fifteenth Doctor hasn’t disregarded these lessons entirely.
“Lux” & “The Well” Have Made A Big Improvement To The Fifteenth Doctor
The Fifteenth Doctor Now Has Two Integral Personality Traits Of Past Iterations
Despite finding Ncuti Gatwa’s portrayal of the Doctor captivating from the start, there’s been a small writing inconsistency that has nagged me since he took over. Prior to RTD’s return as showrunner, the Doctor was often the wittiest and most inquisitive character in any given setting, regardless of whether they were the smartest. They possessed a distinctive viewpoint and an extraordinary knack for resolving problems, ultimately saving the day. Unfortunately, Doctor Who season 14 seems to portray the Fifteenth Doctor as inadequate at their job.
15 often stumbled upon things unintentionally and showed a lack of interest towards exploring new situations, even avoiding trouble on some occasions. However, during season 15’s premiere of “Doctor Who”, the Doctor inadvertently caused the deaths of a group of rebels. Fortunately, the stories titled “Lux” and “The Well” reintroduce the Doctor’s two essential traits – curiosity and courage. It is hoped that these aspects of the Fifteenth Doctor will flourish throughout “Doctor Who” season 15 without overshadowing the distinctive qualities that set them apart from their previous transformations.
