Disney’s Epic Sci-Fi Movie Lineup: 5 Blockbusters You Can’t Miss!
Disney confirmed that five major science fiction films will be released by the end of 2026 in their latest press announcement. In recent times, Disney has become quite familiar with the realm of science fiction, as it has acquired big names such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, and Avatar under its corporate roof. Additionally, these are added to the high-caliber sci-fi intellectual properties that Disney already owned, which include classics like Tron, Wall-E, and Lilo & Stitch (the latter recently receiving a high-budget live-action adaptation).
Recently, Disney announced significant science fiction films set to be released over the next several years, with top-tier productions scheduled up until 2031. This news is straight from a formal press statement issued by Disney, a titan of the entertainment industry.
Every Big Sci-Fi Disney Movie Coming Soon
Tron: Ares
For the first time in over a decade, audiences will return to The Grid this autumn with the premiere of Tron: Ares. This is the first Tron film since 2010’s Tron: Legacy, and on October 10, 2025, it will make its grand entrance into cinemas. For the first time ever, the movie’s famous digital landscape will be translated into our physical world.
In the upcoming installment of the Tron series, we find a predominantly fresh ensemble taking center stage. Jared Leto steps into the role of the enigmatic character Ares, while Greta Lee embodies the new protagonist Eve Kim. Moreover, Nine Inch Nails will be contributing original music to this film, following Daft Punk’s musical contributions in the previous Tron production.
Predator: Badlands
It has been revealed that in addition to the highly praised film “Predator: Killer of Killers,” set for release in 2025, another movie titled “Predator: Badlands” directed by Dan Trachtenberg is also part of the long-running sci-fi series. This upcoming production will serve as a sequel to his 2022 film “Prey” and will focus on Elle Fanning’s character, Thia—an android developed by Weyland-Yutani (the fictional corporation from the Alien universe).
Instead of “Killer of Killers,” the film titled “Badlands” will premiere in cinemas, gracing the big screen on November 7, 2025.
Avatar: Fire and Ash
2025 will see another addition to James Cameron’s blockbuster Avatar series for Disney, with the third film, titled “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” set to hit cinemas on December 19, 2025. This means fans can once more join Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully and the Sully family in the global cinema experience.
I’m excited to share that in the upcoming “Avatar” film, we’ll be exploring uncharted territories within the franchise. For the first time, audiences will meet a new alien adversary, the Ash People – a rival Na’vi clan. This movie is rumored to reassemble some familiar faces from the original cast and also introduce intriguing new characters such as David Thewlis’ character, Peylak.
The Dog Stars
2026 will see a new sci-fi movie from one of the giants in the field, Ridley Scott, released under Disney’s 20th Century Pictures label. The film is titled “The Dog Stars“, which is an adaptation of a cherished novel by the same name. Ridley Scott, famous for movies like Alien, Gladiator, and The Martian, is at the helm of this production.
In theaters on March 27, 2026, the movie titled “The Dog Stars” unfolds a story about a man and his dog surviving in a post-apocalyptic world devastated by a pandemic. They embark on a journey to find the origin of an enigmatic radio signal. This adaptation from Scott is based on the 2012 sci-fi novel, featuring Jacob Elodri, Benedict Wong, Margaret Qualley, and Josh Brolin in prominent roles.
Avengers: Doomsday
As a devoted film enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement as Marvel Studios prepares to bring together their legendary superhero team on the big screen once more. The upcoming blockbuster, “Avengers: Doomsday“, is not just another movie but the opening chapter of a two-part saga currently scheduled in the MCU lineup. This epic tale will reach its climax with “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2027, making for a thrilling duology that no Marvel fan should miss!
The anticipated “Doomsday” scenario, initially set for May 1, 2026, has been postponed to December 18, 2026. This could be a positive turn of events. Notably, veteran Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) creators such as directors Joe and Anthony Russo, along with Robert Downey Jr., who played Iron Man, will rejoin the team for this upcoming project. The storyline in this new film involves the MCU Multiverse being under threat by the villainous Doctor Doom, portrayed by Downey himself. This brings together various realms of Marvel heroes from different films within the brand’s history.
BONUS: Star Wars: Starfighter
Star Wars: Starfighter is the second film in the Star Wars franchise’s new lineup of movies, following one year after the premiere of The Mandalorian & Grogu in May 2026. Directed by Shawn Levy, who has previously worked on Deadpool and Wolverine films, this upcoming movie will feature Ryan Gosling, known for his role as Ken in Barbie. It is set to hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
Not much information has been revealed about the upcoming Star Wars movie except that Ryan Gosling is cast as the lead character, and he’ll face off against a sinister space antagonist portrayed by Mia Goth from the Pearl film.
BONUS: Avengers: Secret Wars
Wrapping up the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga will be the 2027 film, Avengers: Secret Wars, directed yet again by the team behind Avengers: Endgame, The Russo Brothers. This upcoming movie is all set to bring to life Marvel Comics’ most iconic Multiversal comic book event, as various realities battle for their survival against the tyrannical God Emperor Doom who aims to conquer all realities.
The movie titled “Secret Wars” is scheduled to premiere a year after “Avengers: Doomsday,” specifically on December 17, 2027. It has been characterized as an upcoming film event similar to “Endgame” within the extended series.
BONUS: Avatar 4
Although “Avatar 3” hasn’t been released yet, Disney and director James Cameron have already mapped out their plans for “Avatar 4”. The fourth “Avatar” movie is scheduled to hit theaters on December 21, 2029, continuing the storyline from this year’s “Fire and Ash”.
A portion of ‘Avatar 4’ has already been shot, and it’s rumored to feature a substantial leap forward in time, a narrative element that hasn’t been explored in the Avatar series thus far.
BONUS: Avatar 5
The farthest film Disney has scheduled for release is James Cameron’s “Avatar 5,” the last installment of the Avatar sequels that were initially announced in 2010. This movie is set to hit theaters on December 19, 2031, which could mark the conclusion of Cameron’s sprawling science fiction series.
Information about the fifth Avatar film is scarce. Actor Giovanni Ribisi hinted during a discussion with Russ Millheim of TopMob that they had already filmed scenes for the fifth movie, but the specifics of these scenes and how they fit into the storyline (which is rumored to bring the action to Earth for the first time in the series’ history) are still unclear.
