Disney’s Descendants 5: HUGE Update Just Dropped!
The much-awaited sequel from Disney is now in its post-production stage, implying that it has finished shooting. To mark this special moment, they’ve released some exclusive backstage photos and videos.
On the official account for the Descendants franchise, they posted a video where Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker, as Wicked Wonderland leads, appear to travel into the future using a magic pocket watch. This “future” is actually the last day of production on the sequel. The caption reads, “That’s a wrap!”, signifying the end of filming. This post also shares several new behind-the-scenes photos from the set of the fifth Descendants movie, featuring both cast and crew members.
In February 2025, Cantrall, Baker, and Leonardo Nam will once again take on their characters as Red (the Queen of Hearts’ daughter), Chloe Charming (daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming), and Maddox Hatter (son of the Mad Hatter) in “Descendants: Wicked Wonderland”. These three characters made their first appearance in the franchise with the 2024 installment, “Descendants: The Rise of Red”. Kimmy Gatewood, known for “The Baby-Sitters Club”, is directing this new film from a script written by Tamara Chestna, co-executive producer of “Sneakerella”, and Dan Frey and Ru Sommer, who worked on “The Rise of Red”.
The upcoming sequel, titled Wicked Wonderland, is poised to delve into the reality of “happily ever after” for Red and Chloe following their journey through time. In contrast to the 2024 film, this installment will predominantly unfold in present-day Wonderland, with its narrative heavily influenced by Uma’s (China Anne McClain) ominous warning at the end of the last movie about potential repercussions when tampering with time itself.
The Children of Robin Hood, Dr. Facilier & More Join the Descendants Universe
The main theme of the “Descendants” series revolves around the offspring of well-known Disney characters, including Cruella de Vil’s kin, Jafar’s heirs, the Evil Queen’s descendants, and Maleficent’s progeny in the initial installments. In the forthcoming “Wicked Wonderland,” Ursula (the primary antagonist from “The Princess and the Frog”) and Mr. Smee (Captain Hook’s assistant in “Peter Pan”) will make their entrances. Joel Oulette assumes the role of Robbie, Robin Hood’s son, Zavien Garrett takes on Dr. Facilier’s son Felix, while Ryan McEwen and Dayton Paradis play Squirmy and Squeaky, Mr. Smee’s twin sons respectively.
In addition to the main cast, several newcomers will join the lineup for “Wicked Wonderland”. Liamani Segura plays Red’s sister Pink, Brendon Tremblay steps into the role of Max Hatter, the Mad Hatter’s other child, Alexandro Byrd is introduced as Luis Madrigal, the son of Luisa Madrigal from “Encanto”, and Kiara Romero takes on the character of Hazel, Captain Hook’s daughter.
Disney Branded Television president Ayo Davis expressed that the affection for the “Descendants” series is profound, and the enthusiastic reception of “Descendants: The Rise of Red” last year demonstrated the intensity of fans’ involvement with these characters and their narratives. When “Wicked Wonderland” was unveiled initially, she mentioned that the upcoming movie will expand on this legacy, offering more enchantment, melodies, and emotional depth – all hallmarks of what makes “Descendants” unique. This magical experience will be brought to life by an exceptional cast and creative team who are consistently pushing the boundaries of this world with fresh and captivating ideas.
I’m thrilled to share that the initial four “Descendants” films are currently available for streaming on Disney+! However, as I pen this, there’s no official release date set for “Descendants: Wicked Wonderland.” Keep your eyes peeled for updates!
