Disney’s Cinderella gets unexpected spin-off from Paddington director

As a lifelong Disney enthusiast who has spent countless hours engrossed in their magical stories and timeless characters, I am beyond thrilled to hear about the upcoming Prince Charming movie! Growing up with classics like Cinderella, it’s always been fascinating to me how this elusive prince captured hearts without a proper name or backstory.

Prince Charming is getting his very own movie.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that, as per Deadline, the brilliant mind behind “Paddington” and “Wonka,” director Paul King, is all set to breathe life into a fresh interpretation of a beloved character in an upcoming Disney film! At this juncture, details about the plot are still under wraps.

In numerous fairy tales, the character known as Prince Charming is commonly recognized, and he is particularly associated with the classic tale of Cinderella from the 1950s.

Unlike the distinctively named princes in other Disney tales, such as Prince Eric from “The Little Mermaid” and Prince Phillip from “Sleeping Beauty”, the man who captures Cinderella’s heart is more casually referred to as Prince Charming.

Nevertheless, while King’s movie is well-known as the portrayal of this character, Deadline notes that it won’t directly tie into the tale we know as Cinderella.

In addition to being the director for the movie, King will also collaborate on the screenplay with Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker.

I’ve been leading the charge for the first two Paddington films, but I’m passing on the baton for the upcoming third adventure, Paddington in Peru. You can catch it in UK theatres starting next month!

He did, however, remain on board as an executive producer and provided the story.

In 2020, King shared with Empire Magazine that working on Paddington 1 and 2 were among the most enjoyable experiences of his career, but he felt ready to embark on new projects.

He commented, “Eventually, one must draw the line. Perhaps it’s high time for someone else to offer a fresh take.” As for himself, he admitted, “I’m making an effort not to create another bear-themed film, which could turn out to be a significant error.

In the director’s chair for Paddington 3 is none other than Dougal Wilson, who admitted to a blend of feelings when initially approached for the task.

Initially, I was taken aback with a mix of surprise and delight. I must admit, I felt quite flattered and esteemed, but those feelings quickly turned into fear and an unreasonable sense of anxiety. With a hint of humor, he later remarked that’s where the fun came to an end.

Paddington in Peru is released in UK cinemas on November 8 and in US cinemas on January 17, 2025.
