Disney Cruise Line has opened a new adults-only BBQ restaurant, Hangar 98 BBQ, on Castaway Cay. It replaces the previous open-air picnic-style barbecue spot, formerly known as Serenity Bay BBQ or Air Bay BBQ, which closed earlier in 2025. Hangar 98 BBQ opened in mid-December.
As a huge Disney Cruise Line fan, I was so excited to discover Serenity Bay! It’s this amazing, secluded beach just for adults on Castaway Island – that’s Disney’s private island, and they stop there on a lot of their Caribbean and Bahamian cruises. It’s the perfect escape if you’re traveling without kids and want a little peace and quiet.
The Transition to Hangar 98 BBQ
After Air Bay BBQ closed earlier this year, the old building is now hidden behind green screens. It used to be completely open-air, with picnic tables right on the sand. The new building provides better protection from the weather and has both indoor and outdoor places to sit.
Hangar 98 BBQ has a fun, aviation theme with decorations like old signs and propellers, connecting it to the ‘Castaway Air’ look you’ll find in other areas of Serenity Bay. You can easily reach the entrance from the beach via a paved walkway.
Hangar 98 BBQ is open for lunch on Castaway Cay, usually from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This barbecue is exclusively for adults and your meal is included with your cruise.
Serenity Bay and its barbecue area are exclusively for adults aged 18 and over. All services on the beach are part of this adults-only policy.
Menu and Offerings
Hangar 98 BBQ’s menu is similar to the barbecue you’ll find at other spots on Castaway Cay, but it might also have some unique items you won’t find on the family beaches.
Core offerings include:
- Traditional barbecue items such as burgers, fish, ribs, and rotisserie chicken
- Chicken and seafood rice bowls
- Plant-based versions of some dishes
- Island sides and accompaniments
You’ll find these menu choices displayed on boards by the food stations, and they’re similar to what’s available at all Cookie’s BBQ restaurants, which are known for being family-friendly.

Lunch at Castaway Cay is served at several outdoor barbecue areas, offering a buffet or cafeteria-style meal. There are three main locations where you can find food:
- Cookie’s BBQ at the family beach
- Cookie’s Too BBQ also at the family beach
- Hangar 98 BBQ at Serenity Bay, adults-only
Each of the three locations offers a barbecue-style lunch with a variety of options, including meats, salads, side dishes, fruit, and desserts.
Dining on the island is casual and works much like a buffet on a cruise ship. Guests can serve themselves during specific meal times, and reservations aren’t needed.
