Disneyland’s Holiday Celebration Showed Me That Even In The Worst Weather, You Can Still Have The Best Day

Disneyland is full of surprises! The park often highlights that every visit is unique – you never know what adventures await, which characters you’ll encounter, or even what the weather will be like. That’s part of what makes it so special.

Disneyland thrives in Southern California partly because of the pleasant weather. It almost never snows or gets very cold, and you can often wear shorts and a t-shirt even in winter. While Anaheim doesn’t get much rain, it does happen – like it did on the first day of Disneyland’s Holiday Celebration. Some guests might have been disappointed by the rain, but a rainy day at a theme park isn’t so bad, and in this instance, it actually added to the fun.

It’s Never Felt More Like Chirstmas At Disneyland Before

I’m a big fan of both theme parks and Christmas – I definitely prefer it to Halloween! So, I really enjoy experiencing the holidays at theme parks. However, it can feel a little strange. Seeing Christmas decorations and hearing holiday music doesn’t quite feel right when the weather is warm and sunny, like it’s 82 degrees outside.

I’m not used to snowy Christmases, but I always expect to bundle up when the holidays approach. It’s strange when the weather doesn’t match that feeling, but this year, it definitely did – the weather felt perfectly Christmassy.

Even though it was raining, the showers were intermittent, giving me chances to grab a warm drink from the new Festival of the Holidays menu at a quick-service restaurant. I enjoyed walking through the park, admiring the decorations and listening to the music, all while cozy in my Disneyland hoodie under the cloudy sky.

I’ve visited Disneyland many times during the holidays, but this visit truly felt like Christmas. I absolutely loved it! Normally, I prefer sunny weather, but I didn’t mind the cloudy skies or even the rain – I was just so caught up in the Christmas spirit.

I especially loved the Hot Blueberry Cider from Rita Turbine Blenders at Sanfransokyo Pier, and the Cookies & Cream Hazelnut Hot Cocoa from the Brews and Bites booth at Disney California Adventure’s Festival of the Holidays. Both drinks really made my holiday season more enjoyable! They offer versions with alcohol for adults and non-alcoholic options for kids. And just for the record, if my editor is reading this, I was not working when I tried them!

There Are Downside To Rain At Disneyland

Even though the rain made my Disneyland trip surprisingly enjoyable, it’s good to know about the drawbacks. Some rides close when it rains. On the first day of the holiday season, the Storybookland Canal Boats reopened with a new Rapunzel’s Tower addition. I managed to ride it once, but the weather prevented me from riding again later that night when the ride’s music changes.

Rainy weather also forced the cancellation of many holiday events. This meant the parade, fireworks show, and even the popular Storytime with Deadpool weren’t able to happen. Sometimes, when an event is canceled, it’s replaced with an alternative.

Since the parade was cancelled, Disney Parks put together a “Christmas Cavalcade” – a smaller version of the event. Instead of big floats, the characters are now riding on three decorated vehicles along Main Street, U.S.A., waving to guests. It’s a simple alternative, but it’s nice that they’re still offering something festive.

If it’s raining the day of your Disneyland trip this holiday season, don’t be too disappointed! While it might not be the perfect day you imagined, you can still have a fantastic time.
