Disney+ Reveals New MCU Timeline Order for the Entire Phase 5

Disney+ recently updated the release order for Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Overall, fans have had a very mixed reaction to this phase, with some projects being incredibly successful while others have fallen flat. Films like *Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3*, *Thunderbolts* and *Daredevil: Born Again* are being hailed as some of the best in the MCU, but *Secret Invasion* and *Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania* received overwhelmingly negative reviews. Several other projects, including *Echo*, *The Marvels*, and *Captain America: Brave New World*, haven’t made a significant impact.

Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe didn’t quite reach its full potential, largely due to significant challenges that arose during production. Originally, the phase was designed to establish Jonathan Majors’ character, Kang, as the primary villain for the upcoming *Avengers 5* and *The Kang Dynasty*. However, due to legal issues and assault charges against Majors, Marvel had to change course, and Robert Downey Jr. is now set to play Doctor Doom instead.

Disney+ makes it easy for fans to follow the Marvel Cinematic Universe in order with its constantly updated “Complete Timeline.” With *Thunderbolts* now available on Disney+, all of the projects from Phase 5 are on the service, showing the full timeline for the second part of the Multiverse Saga.

  • Echo
  • Ironheart
  • Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania
  • Loki Season 2*
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
  • Secret Invasion
  • The Marvels
  • Deadpool & Wolverine
  • Agatha All Along
  • Daredevil: Born Again
  • Captain America: Brave New World
  • Thunderbolts*

Season 2 of *Loki* is the only Phase 5 Marvel show missing from Disney+’s release order. This is because the show’s story jumps around in time due to the Time Variance Authority. Plus, Disney+ doesn’t list individual seasons separately, making it impossible to pinpoint exactly where Season 2 fits into the overall timeline.

Ideally, *Loki* Season 2 fits best after *Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania*. That movie included a scene from *Loki* after the credits, and the *Loki* show mentions what happened to Kang in the movie. This places *Loki* Season 2 nicely on the timeline, with a note that it connects to the upcoming *Thunderbolts* movie.

Phase 5 of the MCU had some unusual scheduling choices. The shows *Echo* and *Ironheart* were initially included with Phase 4 content, likely because both projects experienced several delays after filming was completed.

What Will the MCU’s Phase 6 Timeline Look Like?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s official timeline has been updated for the first time in 14 years. Although previous stories have shown events from earlier periods, the new series *Eyes of Wakanda* now establishes itself as the beginning of the MCU’s main story, taking place before even *Captain America: The First Avenger*.

The next update to the complete MCU timeline on Disney+ will likely include details about *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*. Because the movie takes place in the 1960s, it would fit fairly early in the timeline. However, its exact placement isn’t crucial, as the story primarily unfolds in an alternate reality – Earth-828.

Following *Thunderbolts*, *Wonder Man* is probably the next Marvel project to be released, unless plans change. Like *Echo* and *Ironheart*, it finished filming in April 2024, suggesting it’s further along in post-production.

I’ve been following the timeline closely, and it looks like things are finally falling into place! It seems *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* will actually happen *before* *Avengers: Doomsday*, which is great news. There was a lot of talk before about it possibly happening at the same time or even after the *Avengers* movie, but now it looks like the release order and the actual story order will match up. I’m really excited to see how it all plays out!

From here on out, most Marvel Cinematic Universe stories will probably take place within the 14 months between the events of *Thunderbolts* and the extra scene shown after the credits.
