Disney reveals first teaser of Lilo & Stitch live-action remake

As a gamer with a heart for nostalgia and a soft spot for animated films that tug at the heartstrings, I must say the announcement of the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch has me absolutely “stitch-tic”! The original film was a part of my childhood, and it holds a special place in my memory.

The first trailer for the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch has been released.

The 2002 Disney animation, titled “Lilo & Stitch”, revolves around a Hawaiian girl called Lilo Pelekai, who was brought up by her elder sister Nani following the demise of their parents.

To mend her fractured family, Lilo decides to take in an alien being, whom she nicknames Stitch. Over time, they become quite attached, leading Stitch to ponder over his habitual destructiveness.

On May 23, 2025, the movie, helmed by director Dean Fleischer Camp and written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, will be shown in theaters.

As a thrilled fan, I can’t help but share my enthusiasm over the electrifying sneak peek! In it, our mischievous friend Stitch is up to his usual antics, this time stirring up trouble at a serene beach. The blue alien, filled with excitement, sets out on a rampage, knocking over an impressive line of delicate sandcastles!

In a return to his creations, Chris Sanders, the writer-director of the 2002 film co-created with Dean DeBlois, lends his voice once more to Stitch – the character he originally brought to life.

Previously, Sanders hinted at reprising his famous role in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, expressing enthusiasm over the “extremely exciting” script.

On various occasions, I still lend my voice to diverse projects. Occasionally, I step into a recording studio to lay down tracks, and it’s always gratifying to learn that he’s still recognized and remembered by the public,” he shared.

“I’ve had a chance to catch glimpses of the new movie, and I can’t reveal any details. However, they also showed me some snippets of the script, and it looks quite intriguing.

In the upcoming movie, Tia Carrere, known for her voice role as Lilo’s sister Nani in the animated film, is set to appear again, this time portraying Mrs. Kekoa. Additionally, Amy Hill will reprise her role but in a new character – Tūtū, who is the neighbor of Lilo and Nani.

The new version’s acting lineup features Zach Galifianakis from “Only Murders in the Building”, Hannah Waddingham of “Ted Lasso”, and Billy Magnussen from “Road House”. Additionally, it includes Maia Kealoha, Sydney Agudong, Kaipo Dudoit, and Courtney B. Vance as well.

Lilo & Stitch’s live-action adaptation is due to be released in cinemas on May 23, 2025.
