Disney Reportedly Has A Wild Plan For Releasing The Avengers: Doomsday Trailer, And I Have Mixed Feelings About This

Next year, the highly awaited movie Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters. It’s the first Avengers film since Endgame concluded the major storyline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it will finally feature Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Surprisingly, despite being over a year away, there are reports that a trailer for Doomsday might be released this month, though I have some doubts about that plan.

Rumors were circulating that the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday would play before the new Avatar movie, Avatar: Fire and Ash, which comes out next Friday. Now, a recent newsletter from The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Fire and Ash will actually feature four different Doomsday trailers. Each trailer will play for one week, meaning if you see the movie during its first week, you’ll see Trailer #1, and so on, with a different trailer showing each week it’s in theaters.

Kelsey Grammer Described Filming Avengers: Doomsday (And Even Beast Would Be Confused)

It seems like another Marvel actor is hinting at the possibility of a future Avengers team-up, potentially involving a major threat. They’re keeping details vague, but fans are speculating about a return of the Avengers to face a significant challenge.

I don’t mind when trailers or special previews are shown exclusively before other movies in theaters. For instance, a nearly six-minute preview for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is currently playing before showings of One Battle After Another and Sinners, and will also be shown with IMAX versions of Avatar: Fire and Ash. This is a great way to encourage people to go to the cinema, particularly if the preview isn’t available online.

Releasing four trailers for Avengers: Doomsday over a month seems excessive. It’s unlikely many people will go to see Avatar: Fire and Ash multiple times just to catch slightly different trailer versions. While I love going to the movies, tickets are expensive, and I don’t appreciate Disney potentially trying to pressure fans into buying them by creating a fear of missing out.

I’m surprised by the unusual way the trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash is being released, especially for such a big movie. While Avatar doesn’t have as intensely loyal a fanbase as Marvel, and opinions on the first two films are mixed, they were both huge financial successes. Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water earned over $2 billion each, making them the highest- and third-highest-grossing films ever. It makes you wonder if Disney is worried that Fire and Ash won’t do as well in theaters.

I won’t pretend I’m not even more excited to see Avatar: Fire and Ash in theaters now that the Avengers: Doomsday trailer is out. Doomsday is currently the superhero movie I’m looking forward to the most, so I’m really keen to get a glimpse of what’s coming on December 18, 2026. However, I won’t pay to see Fire and Ash multiple times just to find small differences between trailers, and I hope this doesn’t become a habit with the trailers for Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
