The upcoming second season of Ahsoka is set to break new ground for the Star Wars franchise. It will also continue to connect the various storylines and characters within the MandoVerse. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the new season, which is scheduled for release in late 2026 – nearly three years after the first season debuted on Disney+. Dave Filoni and his team are promising something special.
In a first for Star Wars live-action shows, Season 2 of Ahsoka will continue the story immediately after the events of Season 1. No previous Star Wars series has ever done this – Ahsoka is breaking new ground by directly following its previous season.
It’s not yet known how much time will pass between the first and second seasons, but Star Wars has stated it won’t be a significant gap. The new season could start almost immediately after the first, potentially even continuing events from the season finale, creating a continuous storyline with no time jump.
What really struck me about Ahsoka is how it handles time. It’s different from other shows in what’s become known as the “MandoVerse” – that interconnected corner of Star Wars on Disney+. You can definitely enjoy these shows individually, but they’re all building towards something bigger. Everyone’s expecting that story to come together in a future project from Dave Filoni – though it’s still officially untitled, most fans call it Heir to the Empire.
All the shows and stories in the MandoVerse take place right after the events of Return of the Jedi during the time of the New Republic. These include The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Skeleton Crew, Ahsoka, and the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Unlike previous shows in the Star Wars universe connected to The Mandalorian, Ahsoka takes place very close in time to both The Book of Boba Fett and Skeleton Crew. This makes Ahsoka the first instance where shows in this connected universe have been so closely linked in their timelines.
Ahsoka Season 2 is the Most Important MandoVerse Project

The second season of Ahsoka will continue the story immediately after the events of Season 1. The first season ended with the characters split into two groups. Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn returned to the main Star Wars galaxy, while Ahsoka, Sabine Wren, Shin Hati, Baylan Skoll, and Huyang remained stranded in Peridea, a different galaxy.
Season 2 of Ahsoka appears to be focusing on two key stories: the ongoing plot connected to The Mandalorian universe and a storyline involving the Mortis gods. The show’s first season strongly hinted at the Mortis gods – characters from Star Wars: The Clone Wars – playing a role in the future. This was signaled by Baylan Skoll standing before a statue of them and mentioning a powerful calling, and was further suggested by creator Dave Filoni.
The story will probably resolve on Peridea, as Ezra reconnects with Hera Syndulla, and possibly Zeb, to let the New Republic know that Thrawn is coming back.
While it hasn’t been officially announced, many fans expect Zeb to appear in Season 2 of Ahsoka. He’s set to play a significant part in the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, and given his connection to Din Djarin (Mando), he could serve as a link between the stories and characters of both shows.
Mando is familiar with Ahsoka, but if she’s still on Peridea, she won’t be able to connect him with the team from the Ahsoka series. This means Zeb might have to take on that role instead.
Carson Teva, a New Republic pilot who’s been a recurring character in the MandoVerse – appearing in shows like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka – is expected to return for Season 2 of Ahsoka, as well as the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Season 2 of Ahsoka has the potential to be the most significant project in the MandoVerse yet. Many Star Wars fans have long considered Star Wars Rebels the most interconnected story in the franchise, and Ahsoka appears to continue that tradition. It essentially serves as a sequel to Rebels, bringing back familiar characters and building on that show’s story.
As a big Star Wars fan, I’m still trying to figure out how everything connects! Right now, we just have to wait and see what happens in the new Mandalorian & Grogu series to get any clues about who might show up in Ahsoka Season 2. It’s good to remember that Luke Skywalker has history with both Din Djarin and Ahsoka, which means pretty much anyone could potentially appear – so the possibilities are really exciting!
It’s likely that the story of The Mandalorian & Grogu could end with Zeb getting an important message from Hera Syndulla or Ezra Bridger. This would naturally connect the events of The Mandalorian & Grogu to Season 2 of Ahsoka, and further develop the interconnected Star Wars universe.
