Disney+ launches new ESPN hub featuring ESPN+ sports content
As a dedicated sports enthusiast who’s spent countless hours glued to my TV during Monday Night Football (MNF), I must admit that the latest addition of ESPN+ to Disney+ has piqued my interest. With a life filled with the thrill of live sports and the occasional binge on animated classics, this new streaming platform seems like an ideal match for me.
To enhance its streaming services, Disney has integrated an ESPN tab and hub into ESPN+. This fresh digital space will function as the go-to location for all ESPN+ sports content.
With the latest update, Disney+’s subscribers can now enjoy a variety of content, including sports, general entertainment, children’s shows, and family programs, all conveniently located in one easy-to-use application.
Disney Plus offers not only its exclusive content but also programs from Hulu and ESPN Plus within its platform. However, keep in mind that to access these contents, you’ll require separate subscriptions for each service.
Disney provides various packages and subscription plans to cater to diverse user preferences, enabling each individual to select a personalized bundle. If you desire access to all three services (Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+), there is an option that costs $16.99 per month. For a more premium experience, free of ads on non-live content, the price increases to $26.99 monthly.
Additionally, there’s an option for individuals who prefer only Disney+ and Hulu, as well as a package that includes Disney+, Hulu, and Max.
With the arrival of ESPN+, cord-cutters can now gain entry to over 30,000 live sporting events annually, featuring matches and competitions from MLB, WNBA, college sports, tennis, golf, and many more. It also offers a vast library of on-demand replays, original content, and studio programming for your viewing pleasure.
It’s disappointing that Monday Night Football, one of the week’s top attractions, isn’t routinely available on ESPN+. While there are some weeks when you can stream Monday Night Football on ESPN+, usually it can only be watched through regular cable TV on ESPN (and occasionally ABC). To me, this is the main drawback of ESPN+, but I suspect it won’t remain this way for much longer.
With fewer cable subscriptions on the rise, Disney is aiming to transfer those viewers to their ESPN+ platform. To achieve this goal, they’re focusing on acquiring major sporting events, and a gradual change towards that direction can already be observed.
ESPN+ is set to broadcast “The Simpsons Funday Football,” a Monday Night Football game in animated format. Additionally, there will be a Christmas Day lineup featuring five NBA games and the “Dunk the Halls” animated special. This means more significant sports events are coming to ESPN+.
What we’re looking for is a greater number of major sporting events, or headliner matches, on a regular basis. Currently, ESPN+ seems to be primarily showcasing minor sports events and college football games.
