Disney+ Just Brought Back Its 5th Captain America Actor

Two actors who have previously played Captain America returned for a new Disney+ movie. Captain America is a long-standing and popular character in Marvel comics, movies, and TV shows, and has been played by many different actors over time. The new Disney+ Marvel film, LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails, which came out on November 14th, featured several voice actors reprising their roles as superheroes.

Roger Craig Smith, a frequent voice actor for Captain America, reprises his role as Steve Rogers/Captain America in LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails. He’s previously voiced the character in other popular projects like Spidey and His Amazing Friends, LEGO Marvel Avengers: Code Red, and Avengers Assemble.

Ogie Banks, who previously voiced Captain America in LEGO Marvel Avengers: Mission Demolition, returns as Sam Wilson (Captain America) in LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails, joining his fellow Captain America voice actor. Interestingly, Captain America’s new design in Strange Tails is based on a costume concept that was originally cut from earlier plans.

Okay, so I just watched LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails, and it’s a blast! Basically, this social media influencer unleashes a bunch of magically-powered cats on the Avengers – all for internet fame, can you believe it? It was so cool seeing both Captain Americas – Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson – fighting together in LEGO form, along with all the usual suspects like Iron Man, Hulk, Black Panther, and Thor. But the craziness doesn’t stop there! They’re also battling the X-Men while dealing with these super-powered felines. It’s a total superhero showdown, LEGO-style!

Now that Smith and Banks are back to voice the hero with the shield, this is the latest example of an actor reprising their role as Captain America in a Disney+ show or series.

All the Captain America Actors Who Have Returned on Disney+

Anthony Mackie

Throughout the first phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Anthony Mackie played Sam Wilson, who fought alongside Captain America as the Falcon. In Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers passed the Captain America shield on to Sam.

The Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier explored who would carry on the Captain America mantle, ultimately leading to Sam Wilson becoming the new hero. While Anthony Mackie has now starred in the MCU film Captain America: Brave New World, his journey to becoming Captain America first unfolded on the Disney+ series.

Wyatt Russell

Wyatt Russell first appeared as John Walker in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Initially selected by the government to replace Steve Rogers as Captain America, Walker lost the title after a violent act. He then became U.S. Agent, working under Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and later joining the New Avengers in Thunderbolts.

Josh Keaton

I’ve always been impressed with Josh Keaton’s work, and it was fantastic to hear him voice Captain America! He played the role in a few episodes of the Disney+ animated series What If…?, and it was a really interesting take on the character. He voiced Steve Rogers in a universe where Peggy Carter was the one who became the First Avenger instead of him – a truly cool twist!

Keaton also provided the voice for Captain America/Steve Rogers in X-Men ’97. In the show, his character met Rogue and teamed up with Iron Man to defend the President from the Sentinels.

BONUS: Chris Evans

I was so thrilled to watch Chris Evans first become Captain America – he really was Steve Rogers for me in almost ten Marvel movies! It was definitely emotional seeing him hang up the shield in Avengers: Endgame. Even though he stepped away from the role after that, I was surprised and happy to see him pop up as Captain America again in Loki on Disney+ – it was cool seeing those older clips during the scene with Loki and Mobius. It felt like a little nod to the past!

BONUS: Hero Hunter

Hero Hunter is a familiar voice for young fans of Captain America, regularly voicing the character Sam Wilson in animated series. He’s played Wilson in three different Marvel shows on Disney+, including Meet Iron Man and His Awesome Friends, Marvel’s Spider-Man and Iron Man: Avengers Team Up!, and recently, again in Iron Man and His Awesome Friends.

Unlike the movies, these versions of the story start with Wilson already as Captain America, skipping his time as the Falcon.
