Disney+ Gets a Holiday Boost As 2 Beloved Christmas Movies Rocket Back Into the Top 10

This holiday season, viewers are enjoying quality entertainment – unlike the fictional Kevin McCallister who was left home alone! The first two movies in the series are popular on streaming platforms worldwide, even 35 years after their release.

As of December 9th, Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York are the most popular movies on Hulu in the United States, according to data from FlixPatrol. Home Alone is also performing well globally, currently ranking number one on Amazon’s top 10 list in Canada, Italy, and Belgium, and sixth in the United Kingdom.

The first movie has been a hit on Disney+, reaching the top spot in Austria, Switzerland, Norway, San Marino, and Italy. Its follow-up film came in second place in Austria, Switzerland, and Norway. Worldwide, the original movie is currently second most popular, while the sequel ranks fourth.

Culkin And His Family Are Also In The Home Alone Holiday Spirit

It’s not just millennials feeling festive this holiday season. Macaulay Culkin recently revealed that his two young children, with partner Brenda Song, are really enjoying watching his classic movies on Disney+.

Culkin recently shared that he often shows his kids the movie Home Alone. Surprisingly, his toddlers don’t seem to realize they’re watching it with the actor who played Kevin McCallister. “They have no idea who’s sitting next to them,” he explained. “They just say, ‘Oh, there’s Kevin.’ They actually call him ‘Kevin Disney’ because they see a short Home Alone trailer on Disney+”.

Even looking at old photos of their father as a child didn’t help his children recognize him as the youngest member of the McCallister family. They just said he ‘looked a lot like Kevin’ from the movie.

I was tucking my oldest son into bed last night, and he asked to look at some old family photos. I found one, and his eyes immediately went to a picture in the bottom left corner. He pointed and said, “That kid looks like Kevin. Who is that?” I told him it was me, but he didn’t realize it was a picture of him when I was younger.

Culkin was actually pleased his son didn’t immediately recognize him as Kevin. “No, not yet, not that,” he recalled. “He just thought I resembled Kevin a lot.”

The actor knows his children will eventually find out the truth about his famous role. He predicts they’ll be shocked when they finally understand, comparing it to the moment a child learns Santa Claus isn’t real. He’s bracing for that day, but is committed to maintaining the illusion for as long as he can.

No matter when his son realizes the connection, Culkin is thrilled these movies still connect with audiences after so many years. He said it’s great to see renewed excitement and people enjoying them again. He was surprised and happy by the warm response, especially considering it’s been 35 years since the films were first released – it feels a little unbelievable!
