Disney+ Confirms The Mandalorian Will Return In 2025 – But With a New Actor

Pedro Pascal will return as Din Djarin, the Mandalorian, in a new Disney+ series. While a fourth season of *The Mandalorian* isn’t currently planned, Pascal’s character and Grogu will appear in a movie, *The Mandalorian & Grogu*, scheduled for release in May 2026. Pascal has already played the Mandalorian for three seasons on Disney+ and also had a significant role in *The Book of Boba Fett*.

Many fans of *The Mandalorian* know that Pedro Pascal isn’t the only actor who plays Din Djarin. Because the role is so physically demanding, Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder often perform the scenes in the Beskar suit. Pascal provides the character’s voice and appears in scenes without the helmet.

I was so excited to see the trailer for *LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past*! It’s official – The Mandalorian and Grogu are coming back in the 2025 Disney+ series. But here’s the big surprise: it won’t be Pedro Pascal playing Din Djarin this time around. Someone new will be under the helmet!

In this version of the Star Wars story, Lando Calrissian, as played by Billy Dee Williams, takes on a new role: he’s not just known for his iconic style, but also as the protector and father figure to Grogu, and he wears the famous Mandalorian armor.

Okay, so the kids – Sig, played by Gaten Matarazzo, and Yesi, brilliantly portrayed by Marsai Martin – basically stumbled onto Grogu, and immediately shouted about finding a ‘Baby Yoda.’ Then, just as you’d expect, the Mandalorian himself swooped in to correct them, proudly announcing, “The baby’s name is Grogu, baby.” It was a cute moment, and a necessary clarification, honestly!

Although Lando Calrissian doesn’t have a traditional Mandalorian upbringing in Star Wars stories, he’s been shown wearing complete Beskar armor and using a jetpack. Given his history as a smuggler and criminal, it’s likely he acquired the gear by stealing it, possibly from Din Djarin or another Mandalorian.

The *LEGO Star Wars* series on Disney+ isn’t considered official storyline in the *Star Wars* universe, so it frequently explores alternate realities and unusual ideas. Lando Calrissian becoming the Mandalorian is a recent example – following the introduction of Darth Jar Jar in the first season of *Rebuild the Galaxy*, which finally aired in 2025.

We don’t yet know how much detail the premiere of *Pieces of the Past* on Wednesday, September 17th will reveal about the new Mandalorian’s history.

What Comes Next for Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin?

It’s been over two years since we last saw Pedro Pascal’s character in *The Mandalorian*. The third season concluded with Bo-Katan working to restore Mandalore, Moff Gideon apparently defeated, and Din Djarin and Grogu finding a peaceful life together on Nevarro.

Following a somewhat mixed response to Season 3, *The Mandalorian* won’t have a fourth season on Disney+. Instead, the story will continue with a movie planned for 2026. Reports suggest that a sequel to the movie will be made only if the first film does well. If the movie isn’t successful, it could mean the end for Din Djarin’s journey and potentially impact future plans for the *MandoVerse*.

It’s unknown why Billy Dee Williams stepped in to play Lando instead of Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin. It could have been a creative choice, or simply because Pascal was too busy with his other acting projects to film for the *LEGO Star Wars* series.

While Lucasfilm hasn’t revealed where Din Djarin and Grogu are headed after Nevarro in the upcoming 2026 Star Wars film, five characters fans already know will be returning. Among them is Jeremy Allen White, who will be playing a Hutt.
