Disney announces big release dates for Freaky Friday 2 and Lilo & Stitch

As someone who has grown up with Disney movies shaping my childhood memories, the news about the upcoming live-action projects in 2025 has me absolutely giddy with excitement! After a rocky year for Disney films, it’s reassuring to see them bouncing back with a vengeance.

Look forward to an impressive summer in 2025, as Disney is set to unveil two massive live-action productions that year!

In recent times, Disney films have encountered a series of difficulties. A number of high-profile flops such as “Haunted Mansion”, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”, and “Wish” have been released. Moreover, even the Marvel Cinematic Universe has faced setbacks; “The Marvels” turned out to be a dud with internal strife adding to its woes.

The ongoing Hollywood strikes in 2023 have disrupted productions, forcing Disney to reschedule its release calendar. However, the triumph of Inside Out 2 has revitalized their faith. They’re maintaining this momentum with Moana 2 set for Thanksgiving and Mufasa for Christmas.

Disney has adjusted their schedule, moving the release of “Snow White,” originally planned for fall, to March 21, 2025. On the other hand, the premiere date for Pixar’s production, “Elio,” which was initially scheduled for June this year, has been postponed by a full year to June 13.

Now, Disney has revealed that two major films are securing release dates aimed at reclaiming the splendor of their summer cinema dominance!

The new Disney Summer 2025 entries

2025, here I come! Excitedly, I’m counting down the days for the live-action version of my childhood favorite, “Lilo & Stitch,” set to premiere on May 23rd. This isn’t just any movie; it’s a reimagining of the cherished 2002 animated film that has brought joy to many. Intriguingly, it’s going head-to-head with the next installment of “Mission: Impossible,” which was initially slated for summer release this year but faced delays due to production hurdles and less-than-stellar box office returns of its predecessor. Can’t wait to see how this dynamic duo performs!

Disney is planning to release a major family film over the Memorial Day weekend, which is usually a successful move for them. The extended holiday period is expected to boost ticket sales and attract audiences.

Additionally, “Freaky Friday” sequel is set to debut on August 8th. This follow-up to the 2003 blockbuster brings back Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as their mother-daughter roles, with an interesting twist: this time, Lohan’s daughter is also involved in a body swap scenario.

In 2003, the original movie released on nearly the same date, and August tends to be a less crowded month for blockbusters. So far, the only significant competition comes from an unnamed Paul Thomas Anderson-Leonardo DiCaprio film produced by Warner Bros. This means that on Friday, the movie will have a larger opportunity to grow its box office earnings without much direct competition.

2025 will see several big-name movies join the lineup, with “Tron: Ares” slated for release on October 10 and “Zootopia 2” hitting theaters on November 26. Disney is gearing up to dominate the box office in 2025, and these sequels are expected to bring in substantial revenue for the company.
