Disney+, Magna Studios, and Sony Music Vision are releasing a new documentary about the highly anticipated reunion tour of Oasis, featuring Liam and Noel Gallagher, called “Oasis Live ’25.” The film is created by award-nominated Steven Knight and directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace. It will first be shown in IMAX and select cinemas globally on September 11 for a limited time, before becoming available on Disney+ internationally and on both Disney+ and Hulu in the US later in the year.
The film’s impressive production quality lives up to the momentous event it portrays. Directors Southern and Will Lovelace are known for their acclaimed music documentaries, including the definitive film about LCD Soundsystem’s final show, Shut Up and Play the Hits, and Meet Me in the Bathroom, which set a high standard for documenting the indie music scene. Their involvement suggests this film is made to last, not just to capitalize on a band’s reunion. Adding to the film’s technical brilliance, cinematographer Haris Zambarloukos (known for Belfast and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) and Oscar-winning sound mixers James Mather (Top Gun: Maverick, Belfast) and Tarn Willers (The Zone of Interest) bring a level of expertise rarely seen in music documentaries.
The film itself is remarkable. It offers unparalleled access to Oasis during their “Oasis Live ’25” tour, including rehearsals, backstage moments, and performances. Even more importantly, it features the first joint interviews with Noel and Liam Gallagher in over 25 years. This alone changes how we can understand the story of Oasis’s breakup. Until now, every account of the split has come from each brother individually, telling their side separately and to different people.
Knight has clearly focused the film on bringing people together and the band’s influence, portraying it as a story of how music can bridge divides between generations and cultures. This approach is similar to his work on Peaky Blinders, where he excels at finding the underlying emotional core within grand events. Given that Oasis’s music has been a defining sound for millions over the past three decades, this documentary has the potential to resonate with a much wider audience than just those who attended their concerts.
The limited theatrical release of the September 11 film in IMAX, before it’s available on Disney+, follows a trend seen with many music documentaries. These films are now prioritizing a cinema release as a key part of their strategy, rather than just an addition after the fact. Disney successfully used this approach with Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour, which became the highest-grossing music film ever on Disney+. While similar, the Oasis film deals with significantly more challenging and sensitive subject matter.
A new Oasis documentary will premiere in select IMAX cinemas and theaters globally on September 11, and will be available to stream on Disney+ internationally. In the US, it will stream exclusively on both Hulu and Disney+ later in the year. More information about where and when you can see it will be shared soon.
