Prepare for another journey to the Land of the Dead, as Disney-Pixar plans to release “Coco 2” in cinemas by 2029.
As a devoted Disney enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that following the annual shareholders meeting, our CEO Bob Iger has confirmed exciting news about a forthcoming sequel! Although specifics about the plot are still under wraps, we know it will be brimming with laughter, emotion, and adventure. Bob himself hinted at more details to come soon. The directorial duo of Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina is back for this project, and Pixar veteran Mark Nielsen takes the helm as producer. I can hardly contain my excitement!
Initially launched in 2017, the movie “Coco” was a significant triumph both critically and commercially, bagging two Oscars. The narrative revolves around a 12-year-old boy named Miguel who aspires to play the guitar despite his family’s long-standing prohibition on music. His journey takes him to the Land of the Dead during the Mexican festival Dia de Los Muertos, where he unearths a family history. The movie earned more than $800 million USD worldwide at the box office. Since then, Pixar has enjoyed success with its animated films such as “Inside Out 2” in 2024 and “Incredibles 2” in 2018, which grossed $1.66 billion USD and $1.24 billion USD respectively. However, neither Pixar nor Disney has disclosed the official 2029 release date for “Coco 2”. Keep an eye out for further updates.
